L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Hey, Varsity Squad. Welcome back to another powerful edition of Level Up conversation with Coach Fergie with Time to Shine Today Coaching. I’m your host, Scott Ferguson, blessed to be your Gap Coach, specializing in performance mental conditioning, working with business leaders, entrepreneurs, entertainers, athletes, C-suite, and students to help them bridge their success gap to live a life of options and not obligations.
On this platform, we are stoked to bring you high performers who are not just chasing and attaining success, but redefining it through providing above and beyond service. And today, I wanna hit you, squad, with a coaching knowledge nugget. Something’s been sitting a little bit heavy on me right now, especially with my, some of my coaching clients, but the best brands don’t just sell products, they create movements. <<READ MORE>>

See, anybody can sell a product. Anybody can slap a logo on something. [00:01:00] Anybody can chase trends, but movements change culture. I was talking to one of my coaching clients actually pretty recently. We’ll just call him AG. A lot of people out there will know who he is. National champion collegiate athlete, tough kid, disciplined, relentless, coming back from injury and still pushing himself to another level.

One thing I passed on to him was this: The reason people gravitate toward you isn’t because you win, it’s because your standards are contagious. Your discipline changes the room. Your preparation changes the room. Your energy changes the room, and that’s when you stop being just another athlete and start becoming a movement.

And honestly, squad, this applies to all of us, business owners, parents, teachers, coaches, entrepreneurs. People are starving for authenticity right now. They’re tired of fake hype. They’re tired of trend chasing. They’re tired of people pretending to care. They want purpose. They want meaning. They want something real to connect to.

That’s why the strongest businesses in the world create identity. They create belonging. They create culture because movements make people feel something. And when people feel something, they remember you. And that’s the challenge I’ll leave with you today, squad. Stop asking, “What can I sell?”

Start saying, “What [00:02:00] do I stand for?” Because products come and go, but movements consume you. They move you. There’s movement, and movement is shaking the world. That’s why I’m so blessed to bring into the studio today Ms. Marsha Pitt Lyles, who was introduced to me by my good friend and also fellow coach we had on a couple episodes ago Dr.

Terry Lyles. He’s actually in studio. He’s giving me a nod, and he’s “What’s up?” But you know- I, my guess is, brings kind of fitness, technology, fashion, and mission-driven movement together in a way you’ve probably never heard before. Her visionary wellness advocate. She- anti-bullying is absolutely huge.

You’re there. The powerhouse founder between E7, cutting-edge athleisure brand that is, it’s built, it’s out there, but today we’re gonna really get into helping people level up their health, wealth, and mindset, their bodies especially. And I’m just so blessed to kinda have you come in here today. It’s I also know that you’ve worked with Miss Halle Berry- I have, yes

I believe a little bit. She’s a neighbor of mine from T- the Toronto [00:03:00] area- That’s right … because I’m, every people that know that I grew up in the Detroit area, so it’s like I used to take the Amtrak- … over there. I was talking to you, and go catch the Phantom of the Opera and whatnot. But, if, Miss Marsha, if someone never met you, walked into your house and conducted, con- conductive clothing prototypes, anti-bul- bullying con- curriculum notes, workout gear, fashion sketches, and batter- battery-powered athletic wear apparel, would they think you’re a fashion designer or a mad scientist?

Secretly building a superhero suit. Because you do a lot. You’re helping so many people really level up, and what we have is with my coaching knowledge and I get, it’s like you’re contagious. It’s like what you put out there is contagious. So what would people think?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah, probably more on the mad scientist.

I think they would just kinda look at me and be like, “Huh?”

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): It’s “What do you do?” Or, “What, what’s going on here?” So

Marsha Pitt Lyles: what do you do?

Yeah.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): So let’s get a little bit to the roots of kinda where you started- … and w- you know, working your way up and kinda where people are kinda searching you out and coming to you, to level up their mindset, their health, their wealth.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: I’m a [00:04:00] dancer, ballet, tap, jazz, started at five.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Oh.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah. And I, I competed. I did the whole competition route. I added piano when I was eight. I competed in piano. My whole life, I was just… It was always a competition.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Oh, wow. Okay.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah. So I did that. I did track and field. I played soccer.

Just, I don’t know, yeah, my whole life was just always about competing.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Competing.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): What lessons do you take away from competing that, you kinda pull forward into today’s world?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: It helps you to understand teamwork.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Sure.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah, because it’s not just you. Even though dance was a team.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Piano was yourself.

Yeah. But but I did understand how to compete. You win. You lose. When you lose, you’re gracious. When you win, you’re gracious. Gracious. Yes. You just… it’s any given Sunday.

One day you win, the next day you lose. It did teach me a lot.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Sure.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And it shaped who I am today.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Love that. And, it I work with a [00:05:00] lot of my athletes especially, you have to say, “Stay humble, stay hungry.” That’s right. Or the old, late, great Casey Kasem used to say, “Keep your feet on the ground, keep reaching for the stars,” right? Like, when you were starting to go through and building your statement of competition and stuff like that, what helped you ground, what kept you grounded through the years?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: I would say probably, my parents. Yeah. My mother-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Yeah …

Marsha Pitt Lyles: most because she was with me. I’ll make this analogy, and I’ve never been arrested. I’ve never been in prison-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Sure …

Marsha Pitt Lyles: jail, whatever, but, if- If I did go to jail-

…

Marsha Pitt Lyles: My dad would have bailed me out.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Sure.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: My mom would have been in there with me.

Yeah. I just wanna- I love that. Yeah. I love that. My parents they supported me, my mo- I, but, I just wanna kinda make that a little bit of a distinction- … because my mom was pretty much my rock.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Okay.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): When you say you’d be in there with you, she’d be out there doing the crime with you and your dad would be bailing you both out?

Or

Marsha Pitt Lyles: like- just meaning that- What are you thinking? … just meaning that my mom was… She would be working and then come home and take me [00:06:00] everywhere I need to be. There would be times when I had a piano competition and then a dance competition. Ooh. Ah. In two separate places.

Wow. And my mom would be the one driving me everywhere. Sure. My mom was Mach 1 with her hair on fire. Pushing me. You go. Yeah. Yeah. Go. We- “You’ve got this, you’ve got this.” So she was my rock. I’ll never forget this one time when, I was in my maybe 20s or thir- maybe my 30s, and, I called her and I just was down on myself.

I’m a loser, I’ve got nothing. What’s, and she went and pulled out every single receipt that I’ve done. Love it. She was- Love that … on the phone with me. She dragged me. Remember this, you did

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): this,

Marsha Pitt Lyles: you did this. Yep. She dragged me- Yeah … from the depths-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Love

Marsha Pitt Lyles: that … and brought me back up.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Love

Marsha Pitt Lyles: that.

Because I was, like, feeling like I was at rock bottom.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): We call it the kooky

Marsha Pitt Lyles: jar.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): And what am I doing? Oh, that’s a good term. And my coaching, where, like… Or you’re, every practice, you’re making a deposit.

And then when it’s time for withdrawal, it’s there. And then, and being a coach, like myself, your husband and whatnot, we remind them of, “Hey- Yes

this is what we did, and this is what your mother did for you,” right? That’s what [00:07:00] she

Marsha Pitt Lyles: did. Yep.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Absolutely. So know you’re heavily involved in nutrition and athleticism. Squad, when you look online or whatnot, she’s built pretty good, and I don’t know how Terry can not get beat up at home and whatnot and say no.

Her husband’s the Awesome Sauce, Terry Lyles, who I’ve turned to for some coaching advice through the times, and we had him on a couple weeks ago. You’re heavily involved in nutrition and athleticism. What are some of the biggest lies that you’re seeing, or misconception in the health and fitness industry right now that keeps feeding people?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: I’m really not a huge fan of carbs.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Okay.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: First, let me say-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): We love

Marsha Pitt Lyles: them … I love carbs. I love carbs as the day is long.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Yes, me too. Yes,

Marsha Pitt Lyles: yes. Yes. Now, carbs don’t love me that much.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: I would say everybody’s different. Everybody’s body is different.

Sure. But if you’re gonna… If you like carbs and you wanna eat carbs, try to keep your fats on the low side. Low

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): side.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yes. If you’re gonna- Like low fat, yeah … Yes. If you’re gonna eat fat-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Keep the carbs low. …

Marsha Pitt Lyles: keep the carbs [00:08:00] on the low side. Like- That’s what my

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): body coach tells

Marsha Pitt Lyles: me … yeah, you gotta, it’s that whole scale.

You gotta weigh it.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): It’s like my coach would be like this, “If you’re gonna eat that pizza, break it up and eat the fats the one- one day and the next day eat the carbs.”

Marsha Pitt Lyles: My, that’s very interesting. I never even thought

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): about that. It’s a joke. He doesn’t want me eating it.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: No. Yeah.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): So but we do, Marsha, live in, a culture of quick fixes, energy drinks, stimulants, burnout.

Like, how important is the daily discipline that you’re seeing of sleep, hydration, nutrition, movement compared to the motivational hype you see out there?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: You just said it, because what you said- Prior, like that’s what you need to do. Because an energy drink is a quick fix- like you said. But if you build your foundation- … if you’re gonna build a house-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Love it …

Marsha Pitt Lyles: the foundation has to be there. Because if the foundation’s not there, the whole thing’s gonna implode.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And so if you’re just doing the quick fixes it might give you energy for like- Sure

two hours, and then you hit a wall.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And then you do that again the next day, and if you continue to do that-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Yes …

Marsha Pitt Lyles: over time, what’s gonna happen?

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): And we start… you see a [00:09:00] lot on our labels right now enriched- … fortified- … and stuff like that. And like I have the MTFR gene, the mother effer gene that kinda runs through, that if I eat anything that’s fortified or enriched- that I, i- inflammation just takes over- … my body really bad. That’s right. And it’s funny, I’ve been to Italy, and- Ooh, love Italy … the people walk… they’re all skinny. They’re in really good shape, and they eat pasta and bread every day. It’s ’cause their- Every day … food’s not sprayed-

Joel Malkin: Yeah

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): with that.

Joel Malkin: Absolutely. So

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): What’s your take on what’s going on with our food right now that’s on the shelves? Like I, I tell my clients, “Shop the perimeter of a grocery store.” You know what I’m saying? Oh, yeah. Don’t go to the other one. Absolutely. But what’s going on right now, do you feel?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: It, yes. So everything is sprayed, starting from our vegetables. Like, how do I eat a salad and then the next day gain weight?

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): It’s-

Marsha Pitt Lyles: No, seriously, because-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): 100%, yes.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah. Everything’s sprayed. It’s the chemicals that they spray on there. I’m not gonna say any words.

R-U. Right. You

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): know

Marsha Pitt Lyles: what I’m talking about? That they spray.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Oh, yeah. Yeah, yes.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yes. Okay. Yeah. Yes,

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): yes.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: So things like that.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Yeah. And,

Marsha Pitt Lyles: It’s filled with

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): like folic [00:10:00] acid and other kind of,

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Just chemicals … chemicals, yeah. Chemicals like that are carcinogenic.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): And our bodies don’t process it, right?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: No, a- and your liver is working overtime- Yes … to try to get rid of it. Detox it,

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): yeah.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: So now your liver, and, if you have a few drinks, look at the Italians. They drink-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Wine every day …

Marsha Pitt Lyles: wine every day. Yeah,

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): yeah.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Even when they’re pregnant, they, … dare I say. Yeah,

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Yeah,

Marsha Pitt Lyles: yeah.

I get it. Yeah. But but they don’t have the toxins in their food- … like we do, so our liver has to try to process all the toxins, and then our casual drink- … or whatever, w- we’re working overtime. Our body. And let me tell you this. We went to Italy-

…

Marsha Pitt Lyles: For a wedding, our fabulous best friend, his wedding, and, How do I go there?

I d- now, I told you- Let

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): me guess, you came back weighing less?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: I came back weighing less. Me too. And let me tell you something.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Yeah.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yes. If… All my friends and family- Yeah … who know me right now- … if they were there and watched me eat- Just eating … at the wedding. Yes. We had [00:11:00] five rounds of pasta.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Yeah.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Five rounds of pasta. Yep. Yep. And then a meat.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: The protein finally the sixth, and then dessert- … which is the gelato, and I ate it all.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): And you came back-

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Ate it all … feeling great And I came back three… I ate bread- Yeah … with pesto and oil. Come on.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): It’s so good. It-

Marsha Pitt Lyles: It’s so good, and you lose weight.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Yes. It… When I went there, like customs, they, “You have anything to declare?” And I’m like, “No, here.” “Can I go through your stuff?” And I had a little crackers. You know the orange crackers that Mom and Dad used to give us with the peanut butter in the middle and stuff like that? Oh, yeah. They’re like, “Oh, can’t bring this on.”

Of course. But I’m like, “Why not?” They’re like, “We don’t allow…” Basically, he’s “We don’t allow this crap in our country.” That’s

Marsha Pitt Lyles: right.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): That’s

Marsha Pitt Lyles: right. And stuff like

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): that. So-

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And even the things that you put on your skin.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Yes.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: The… it’s all in there. It’s mineral oil, like all kinds of drama- that, even your nail polish. You could put nail polish on. It goes

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): right

Marsha Pitt Lyles: through. When I put nail- People don’t know the nerves. Yeah … if you notice, I’ve got no nail polish on. Because when I take it off, my fingernails are, like, brown.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Yes.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: They’re not pink. Yeah. It- ‘

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Cause it’s [00:12:00] blocking that stuff from kinda getting into your body.

And squad, we are going to follow up on this. This is super exciting that I’m in the room with a like-minded person here. L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Hey, Steve, thank you so much for the market update.

Rates jumped a little bit this week, but I can see you’re still busy for when you return my call. Just kidding, Steve. Absolutely love your guts, man. Thank you so much for the sponsorship. So how about quitting? With people that quit.

Joel Malkin: Oh.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): That people… ‘Cause with my clients, I remind them, especially like I, I’m blessed to coach a trail runner that runs 100 miles.

And he’ll be like, ah, what, quit.” I re- say, remind him, “Hey, the person that started it and the person that finishes it, those are only two people that matter.” Not the person in the middle, right?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: That’s

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): So if someone starts out on their health journey what are your secret sauce, if you will, to really keep them on point when things get tough?

Because, the New Year’s resolution, right? Oh, yeah. By February 4th, everyone’s done with them. Oh, yeah. Or maybe even before. Yeah. So what is something that you can share with the squad?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: First I’d like to say that I always say to myself, “What would my future self-” [00:15:00] Say to my present self- Yes

right now

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): now, yes.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: That’s right

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): 100%.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: If I were to quit.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Thank you.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And I say that constantly. Thank

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): you.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Absolutely.

And another thing that I wanna say is that if I had a nickel for every time when I tell people that, I play the piano-

…

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And they said, “Oh, I used to play the piano when I was young and I quit.”

I wish- … if I could… i’d be a billionaire-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): … For

Marsha Pitt Lyles: people saying that.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Sure.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: So I, I love that whole future self telling your present self.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): To piggyback on that with my clients, every time, especially my professional athletes, I’ll tell them like, “Listen,” “What is…”

Let’s say the national college tournament is in March. I’m like, “What is the person on the top of the podium reaching back in time and shaking the person saying, ‘I made 22nd'”?

Or 23rd or 2026, what are they saying to them right now? What are they thanking them for doing that day?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Like you said-

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Exactly …

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): your future self reaching back. That’s right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: That’s right.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Absolutely. So the competitive drive that you have and whatnot, ’cause I know that you had some Broadway time and I- … d- you- Lion King, I [00:16:00] believe, right? That’s

Marsha Pitt Lyles: right.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): And a lot of that stuff, again, I, w- we shared off mic, I go to these shows and a lot of it’s very physical.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And did you ever go to The Lion King though? Because you said you went

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): for Fiddler. I didn’t in Toronto- Okay … but I did in Chicago.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Oh, okay.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): And it was like wa- watching them do all this stuff on stage, it was very physical. What part did you play?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: I was the cheetah.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Oh, really? Yeah. So that was actually very like-

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And I was the only cheetah because in New York they had two cheetahs.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And in Toronto they only had the one.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Oh, wow. Yeah. Okay. So that was actually a very movement oriented-

…

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): R- did you ever have any injuries or anything that you had to push through? Because the show must go on.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Oh, yeah.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): And you don’t want your understudy coming and taking your place, right?

So what did you do mindset-wise and whatnot to really push through and make sure, ’cause the passion’s obviously there.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Oh, yeah. Yeah, no. It’s a, it’s a struggle and a grind every day. I hate to use the word grind- Sure … because that sounds negative. It is. Yeah.

And I’m not gonna lie, the best show energy-wise in the, ’cause I was original cast.

The original cast, we had [00:17:00] friends and family, so it was kinda like a soft opening before the actual opening. Okay. I’m gonna tell you something. I’ve never… it was so electric when we had all our friends and our family in the audience.

I’ve never been so motivated in my life to get out on that stage. I could not wait. I could not wait. And every day I was motivated- Sure … to get out on that stage. Because people, it was like a whole year in advance- … people bought their tickets.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: You have to give them-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): They’re

Marsha Pitt Lyles: waiting.

Yes … the best. And eight shows a week- … is very taxing on the body.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Was that like a two on Saturday and then one the rest of the days or

Marsha Pitt Lyles: was it- And two on Saturday, two on Wednesday.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Wednesday. Okay.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Gotcha. Yep. And then in the winter they would have two on Sunday, two on Saturday.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Oh, wow. Okay.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Gotcha.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah, so you’re always eight shows.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And, it’s the mindset. There’d be times I was laying on the floor-

…

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Before.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And you get up and you just you do it. You

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): perform.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: You pull it through. You, you- Because why? Not just because of yourself-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right

Marsha Pitt Lyles: but because these people-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): They’re relying [00:18:00] on you.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah. Yeah. They’re out there, they paid their money.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Yes.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: They wanna see the best.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Lion King hired me- … because I was the best at the time.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): At the… Yeah. Yeah.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: You want to represent-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Absolutely …

Marsha Pitt Lyles: everybody. And you say it to the cheap seats-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right

Marsha Pitt Lyles: all the way at the top. I

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): love that.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yes.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Love that.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Absolutely. That you’re performing

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): for everybody.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: That’s right.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): And so when the injuries mounted up and whatnot, was it adrenaline that pushed you through? Is it a combination of adrenaline, passion for the people that paid their money to come out and see you?

And also, there’s a lot that, again, you don’t wanna lose, ’cause I’m blessed to coach someone that’s out on the West Coast right now. She’s been on the cover of Me- People Magazine right now. Oh, wow. So I know that what can happen if they don’t come through. So what was the… give me a, maybe an example of a time where you had to really pull it together.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Okay. So I was on stage. It was before, I killed Mufasa. Because it was- … simba was m- gonna say, you know- … “It was me,” right? Because he thought he… he

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): thought he killed

Marsha Pitt Lyles: his father. He had thought he- … killed his father. And the [00:19:00] stage, the back of the stage comes up like this, so it’s on a tilt.

And so we’re walking around and my f- I tripped in the part of the stage. Oh. And all you hear is b- bang. Bang. That’s all you hear. And it was my knee-

…

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Hitting the stage.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And everybody on stage knew. At that point, everybody’s on stage. Sure. The entire cast-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right

Marsha Pitt Lyles: is on stage, and everybody knew I fell and hit. The entire audience knew.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Wow.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: They saw. I fell and hit.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And I had to keep going. And I’ll, I’m dancing, I’m doing my thing, and then we stop because we’re looking up to see Simba tell us that it was him.

And my knee-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Oh.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Elvis- Yeah.

when he does the knee thing? Da. That was, my whole leg was doing that.

And, the girls are like, “Get off the stage.” This is what they’re telling me. I’m like, “I c- I can’t get, I can’t just get off the stage.” And then- Change

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): the whole storyline.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah. Someone

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): should do that, right?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: So then I’m sitting there with my Elvis- … leg, and then [00:20:00] finally Scar says, “I killed Mufasa.” And then we go dah. And then we go into this huge fight. The lionesses- … girls against the hyenas- … the boys. And it’s all lifts, and they throw you, and all this stuff. Oh,

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): it’s amazing.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: It’s amazing. So at this point, I drag my Elvis leg off. And the crew, they were standing right there. They whisk me up- … and f- put me over into another room, because believe it or not, the action on stage, it’s even more action- … backstage. Things are flying. The crew guys, the crew guys are like They are in, they- They’re like- Oh, yeah

holding their bra up they’re part of the crowd they’re a part. Yeah, because the things they did backstage- … it’s amazing. Yeah. So

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): with you being around that and ar- and around people, again, like I’m gonna throw Halle Berry out there. She’s an Oscar winner, right?

So what do those high performers do differently than, I don’t wanna call them average people, but the other people that are out there, not just physically, but like mentally, emotionally. What do they do different really to level [00:21:00] up?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: They wanna quit every day. Oh. But the difference is-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right

Marsha Pitt Lyles: is that they wake up in the morning-

…

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And they persevere.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Do they find their… I- it’s almost like they find their why every day in a sense. That’s right. They revisit it.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: That’s right. That

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): you

Marsha Pitt Lyles: see a lot of? Because, you know your why, but even if you know your why, y- you, there’s days…

‘Cause I’m just gonna speak for me.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Sure.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: There- there’s days when I’m like, “You know what? I’m done. I don’t care. I’m done. That’s it. I’m done.” And then, you breathe. You pray.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): And you have a-

Marsha Pitt Lyles: You know- …

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): top-notch coach as your husband, right? Yeah. So it’s like he’s gonna make sure-

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And then, that’s right

that you’re

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): on

Marsha Pitt Lyles: point. Yeah. And then you wake up- Yeah … and then you do it again. Okay. Because you know what? What would your future self- … tell your present self? Exactly. And that’s where I go to every day. What would she say to me?

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Yes. I love that. And now I use it with every single one of my- Yes

clients. It’s what are they reaching back in time and thanking you for doing today? That’s right. That’s right. So how about this? If you could change, say, three daily habits, American households, like right now, [00:22:00] to improve longterm health, performance, and just longevity, what would you put out there?

Three things that you would change right now.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: I would say maybe change what’s in your fridge.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Like you. Yep, huge.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: I would say change your, whatever exercise you’re getting, just every day level up a little bit more. A little bit

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): more, yeah.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Just a little bit more.

Go one more.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): That’s what we say, yeah.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yeah.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): G1M, go one more.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Go one more. Yeah. Love it. Love it. That’s right. In tennis we always say, “Hit one more ball.”

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Hit one. Love it. Love

Marsha Pitt Lyles: it. Yeah. And then the third thing would be- You know, let’s try to make it a point to go to bed-

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Thank you. Sleep’s huge.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: That’s right.

Yeah. Maybe at, you know- Yeah … if you go to bed at 11:00 let’s start going to bed at 10:30. And then after a week, we’ll start going to bed at 10:15.

Introduction: Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: And then, you know- Exactly. That- … because I always say it’s it’s a workout. When you go to the gym- … you’re working out. You just… Yeah. It doesn’t… if you’re gonna do everything all at once- … obviously, you’re gonna fail. I don’t care who you are. Absolutely. You’re gonna fail.

Introduction: Right.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: [00:23:00] So take it one step at a time. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Love it. Don’t beat yourself up.

Introduction: Yes.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: So just start with little changes.

Love it. Sustain it, and then- Yeah … hit one more ball.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Love that. And squad, you hear her. Inch by inch, it’s a cinch. By the yard, it’s hard, right? That’s what she’s saying. Little by little. Bite that off, eat that elephant one bite at a time and whatnot. And also, give yourself grace and space for times- Absolutely

that, it doesn’t work out for you that day, right? So I always ask this. We’re kinda wrapping it up. So quickly, how do you want your dash remembered? That little line in between your incarnation date and your expiration date, your life date and death date. How does Marsha Wagner dash remembered?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Wow. I think it’s how I summed it up with my One Hope Mess that’s on ESVYN. I play hard. I work hard. I play hard. I don’t take myself too seriously. But I know my worth.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Love it. And squad, I love that advice. And one of my mentors told me when I was younger, “Don’t take life too seriously.

We’re not making it out alive.” Exactly. It’s 100% true. We’re all here. So how can we find you?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: So at mydancebody.com. Love [00:24:00] it, and

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): that’ll be in the show notes, squad. Mydancebody.com?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yes, and esvyn.com. S- and why

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): don’t you spell that for me?

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Oh, so it’s E- E-S-V-Y-N- Love it … .com. Love it. She actually went

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): out

Marsha Pitt Lyles: and

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): wanted to get esvyn.com.

I did. That’s like a billion dollars, but-

Marsha Pitt Lyles: The letter E, the number 7, eh.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): I love that. And if you could, leave us with one last knowledge nugget that we can take with us, internalize, and take action on, the squad out there, in leveling up their health, wealth, or mindset, or all three.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: That’s interesting. I think, like what I said before, don’t, just don’t beat yourself up.

Love it. Life beats us up enough- Enough, yes … already.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie):

Steve Austin – Rize Mortgage – Show Sponsor: love

Marsha Pitt Lyles: it. Yeah. Be, just be good to yourself. I love that. Be kind to yourself. Thank you

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): so much for coming in.

Marsha Pitt Lyles: Yes.

L. Scott Ferguson (Coach Fergie): Thank you. This is awesome. And squad out there, thank you so much. All the veterans that are over there doing the deed, my fellow veterans, thank you to you.

Thank you to my producer, Brian Mudd, to WJNO. Everybody have a great holiday weekend. Absolutely love you guys.
