In this week’s Knowledge Nugget, Coach Fergie tackles one of the biggest reasons people stay stuck: waiting for certainty. Through a coaching conversation with a successful hedge fund manager who regularly makes million-dollar decisions, Fergie reveals how even high performers can get trapped in analysis mode when life requires courage instead of guarantees. If you’ve been carrying around a decision for weeks, months, or even years, this episode will help you understand why confidence doesn’t come before action—it comes because of action.
3 Actionable Take-Aways
- Stop waiting for certainty. Most of the growth, opportunity, and clarity you’re looking for will only reveal itself after you take the first step. 🚀
- Confidence is built through action, not preparation. The people making progress aren’t making perfect decisions—they’re making decisions, learning, and adjusting along the way. 🎯
- Ask yourself whether you’re afraid of making the wrong choice or being responsible for the choice. One keeps you moving forward, the other keeps you standing still. 🔥

L. Scott Ferguson: [00:00:00] Hey squad, stop waiting for certainty. That’s the thing that’s keeping most people stuck. Hey, it’s Coach Fergie with Time to Shine Today Coaching with your weekly coaching knowledge nugget. You ever notice how some people are always almost ready? Almost ready to launch, almost ready to make the move, almost ready to have the conversation, almost ready to take the shot, and then six months goes by, a year goes by, and nothing changes.
Not because they don’t have talent, not because they don’t have opportunity, because they’re waiting for certainty. I was coaching a hedge fund manager this week. This is a guy who regularly makes decisions involving millions, not thousands, millions of dollars. He evaluates risk for a living. He knows how to make difficult decisions, but he found himself stuck, not because he didn’t have options, but because he had too many. <<READ MORE>>

Every opportunity looked good. Every path had an upside. Every path had some risk. So he kept analyzing, running scenarios, gathering more information, trying to make sure he picked the right one. And finally, I stopped him and asked, “Hey, What if there isn’t a perfect option?”
He sat there for a second. He smiled because deep down he already knew. [00:01:00] He wasn’t looking for a better decision. He was looking for a guarantee, And life doesn’t hand those out. That’s when the conversation shifted. Because here’s a guy who can make million-dollar decisions inside the business, but was struggling to make a decision about his own future.
Why? – Because business decisions are measured with data. Life decisions are measured with courage, and no spreadsheet can eliminate uncertainty when it comes to your next chapter. That’s what so many people miss. They think confidence comes before action. It doesn’t.
Confidence usually shows up after action, after you’ve made the call, after you’ve started, after you’ve committed, after you’ve moved. The people moving forward aren’t making perfect decisions. They’re making decisions, then learning, then adjusting, then moving again.
So if you’ve been carrying around a decision for weeks, months, maybe even years, ask yourself this: Are you afraid of making the wrong choice, or are you afraid of being responsible for the choice? Because those are two very different things. . Your next level may not require more research, more opinions, or more time.
It simply requires a decision. Make the call. Take the shot. Trust [00:02:00] yourself enough to move. You can always adjust your direction, but you can’t create momentum standing still. So if you’re finding yourself standing still, trying to make that decision, kinda getting lost in the moment, your own moment, then give me a call.
