3 Actionable Take-Aways

  1. Get Specific About What’s Hurting: Is it the workload, leadership, expectations, or the work itself? You can’t correct something you haven’t identified. 🎯
  2. Have the Conversation You’ve Been Avoiding: Asking for support, establishing boundaries, and clarifying expectations aren’t signs of weakness. Suffering silently isn’t a strategy! 🗣️
  3. Redefine the Win Without Sacrificing Your Peace: The person chasing that promotion five years ago may not be who you are today. Make decisions from clarity, not panic, and build a life of options, not obligations! 🚀💙

COACH FERGIE: [00:00:00] You got the promotion, so why do you feel trapped? Squad, five years chasing that corner office, that title, that bigger paycheck, you finally get there. Everybody’s congratulating you, and now you’re sitting in your car before work thinking, “Man, what did I just get myself into?” Let’s unpack this because there’s something here that could change how you look at success.
All right, squad. Coach Fergie here with Time to Shine Today Coaching, and I wanna introduce you to a coaching client of mine. She works for a very well-known talent agency out on the West Coast. We’ll call her Tracy. Now, Tracy just received a promotion this week that she’s been working toward for five years. <<READ MORE>>

Five years, squad, and I’m pumped for her. She earned that opportunity. But during our coaching conversation, I challenged her with something. “Tracy, you’ve spent five years figuring out how to get this position. How much time have you spent figuring out how you want to live once you’re in it?” Think about that.

And this might be on me. I might… I should have maybe covered it while we were coaching into that position. But let’s just kinda think about it, because I’ve seen people [00:01:00] chase a position for years, only to find themselves buried under responsibilities, watching everybody else head home, take vacations, enjoy their families, and they’re still sitting there answering emails at nine o’clock at night.

Now listen, I’m not gonna sit here and tell you that every uncomfortable promotion means you need to quit. Come on, squad. Sometimes you’re uncomfortable because you’re growing. You’re learning to lead, make decisions, handle pressure. That’s part of leveling up. But there’s a difference between a position that stretches you and one that’s slowly strangling you.

So here’s your three-move playbook. First, identify what’s actually hurting. Is it the workload? Is it the leadership? The expectations? Or do you genuinely dislike the work? Don’t just say, “I hate my job.” Get specific. You can’t correct something you haven’t identified.

Second, have the conversation you’ve been avoiding. Maybe you need support. Maybe you need boundaries. Maybe the expectations were never clearly established. But sitting there quietly suffering, hoping somebody notices, squad, that’s not a strategy. And third, give yourself permission to redefine the win. The person who [00:02:00] wanted that promotion five years ago may not be the person you are today, and that’s okay.

Maybe you grow into the position. Maybe you change how you operate. Maybe you eventually choose another direction. But make that decision from clarity, not panic. So here’s your nugget. Just because you’ve earned the opportunity doesn’t mean you’ve signed away your peace. And remember Tracy? Her promotion is brand new.

I’m not coaching her to fear what hasn’t happened. I’m coaching her to walk into that opportunity with her eyes open, her standards high, and her priorities intact. Because squad, we don’t chase success just to become prisoners of our own accomplishments. Think about that. We do not chase success just to become prisoners of our own accomplishments, and the way we define success is living a life of options, not obligations.

So if we’re a prisoner to those new accomplishments, it’s just not flying. So we built lives of options, not obligations. So here’s my challenge to you. Before you chase the next title, ask yourself one question. Do I want the position, or do I want the life I think that comes with it? There is a difference.

And [00:03:00] squad, if you’re dealing with this or you just received a promotion… I actually had somebody else reach out to me about this just out of the blue, and again, I have a complimentary Hour of Power where we can work together, shine a light on your blind spot, and see how we can have you level up into that new position while still living that life of options.

So if you’d like to, give me a call directly, 248-739-6362. 248-739-6362. Again, 248-739-6362, or go to timetoshinetoday.com/hop. Timetoshinetoday.com/hop for Hour of Power. So squad, thank you so much. Go out there, lean into your ultimate human potential. Find someone to serve, so- find someone to make smile, someone that you can lean into and make their life better as well, because that’s just what leads to our version of success.

I absolutely love your guts
