Hey welcome to time to shine today podcast episode 24. Rise and grind. Mind over the mattress. This is Scott Ferguson. Let’s level up.

Hey everybody what is going on my time to shine today varsity squad and freaky fanatics. Last night was the Super Bowl. Super Bowl 54. What a game. What a game. Guess the Chiefs wanted it a little bit more than the niners but I’ll tell you what, it did not disappoint. I got to tell you that. The halftime show was good old fashioned family entertainment. It’s actually I enjoyed it but I just don’t know if I’d want my kids watching it but I’m not passing judgment. It was it was a lot of fun. The game is just fantastic. You know, it’s funny is that they say that day

That’s most called off for work is the Monday after the Super Bowl understandable Some people like to enjoy their adult beverages and more power to them. And if they got the vacation days saved up fantastic. But we’re going to go through today how to rise and grind and having your Mind Over Mattress. I’ve talked about our morning routine before but I want to talk a little bit more today by why rising a little bit earlier gave me great for you and help you level up a lot more. Okay, so one thing I’ve noticed about rising a little bit earlier and having the Mind Over Mattress mentality is it gives me that like one extra hour during the day, super crucial part of the day, which is the beginning. I found that when I wake up a little bit earlier, the time slows down or seems like I can get a lot more done in that quiet time. I also get to spend

A little bit of time with Susan because she’s an early riser and she goes to work early. And it kind of gives us that 1015 minutes of connection time as well, where we just kind of talk and you know, talk about leveling up our day. But again, the time really just does slow down. It allows you to do things that you’re not able to do when time gets away from you.

And as Robin Sharma would say, and he’s the author of who will cry when you die, the monkey sold your Ferrari, all that stuff’s in the show notes. But he would say getting up early is a gift to give yourself and it is it gives you that our it’s time that you never get back if you were sleeping, and I don’t want you to get off your sleep schedule. Just to get up early. I mean, make sure that you prep yourself for bed, give yourself a solid bed time and we’ll get back into that a little bit later in the podcast. But waking up earlier slows the time down and it will stop you from making up for lost time and playing catch up throughout the whole day. So let’s start with our time before you go to bed. That’s do something that’s fun for yourself, whether it’s reading, watching your favorite show, blogging, whatever you want to do at night to kind of just tone everything down to just bring it down a little bit so you’re able to fall asleep a little bit faster. Let’s try not to eat after eight o’clock at night. Let’s try to not get in front of screens late into the night. Let’s try not to read in bed. Let’s really just do something to calm your brain about 30 to 60 minutes before you’re ready to shut it down myself. I have like nighttime supplements I like to take then I like to do like a 10 breath meditation. I might read a book actually I do read a book. I’m in the book right now called the blue mind. It’s fantastic about being close to water and why humans love it. But I digress.

Read the book.

And then I’ll crawl into bed and go to sleep. Now when you wake up no matter what time if it’s 9am or 6am, you’re going to have a hard time getting out of bed. It just it’s human nature for us to love to sleep. And again, very important sleep hygiene, get your sleep, but getting up early is going to give you that extra time for yourself. It will stop you from making up for lost time and playing catch up throughout the day. Okay, so a great book, you can read them getting your butt out of bed, there’s a couple of them one by Mel Robbins, which is the five second rule and I actually implement that in everything that I do. I do a countdown like if I’m laying there, I’m not feeling it. I’ll just say 321 go. And I just get up. I just push through it and get up just kind of like maybe the space shuttle lifting off and it’s a lot of power to get it up. Once it’s going. It’s a little bit easier and that’s the same thing with getting out of bed. That’s a great book to read.

Pick up Mel Robbins five second rules in the show notes. And also Jocko Willink can US Navy SEAL him in another Navy SEAL Lake Babin wrote a book, Extreme Ownership, how US Navy SEALs lead and when they give you some great ideas, exercises that you can do about actually shutting it down and about getting up early. So let’s get your mind ready for bed at night. And then also when it’s time to get up, get your hours up and get moving. Okay? Remember that that time in the morning is a gift that you give to yourself. You don’t get time back. So one commodity, it’s so cliche, but it’s a commodity time. You don’t get it back. So why not get that extra hour to connect with yourself the reading, through journaling? Through maybe watching a video that has to do with industry. And in that time, you’re not watching the news. You’re not eating a bunch of crap you’re getting your morning routine going. You’re getting moving, you’re getting the blood flowing, you’re filling your mind with stuff that is going to help you level up through your day.

Alright, so this is a really short Knowledge Nugget today. But please get your sleep hygiene, right rise and grind. Remember, it’s all Mind Over Mattress 321 blast off, get up, you won’t regret it. And it’ll give you that crucial hour to yourself, which will lead to the rest of your day, being productive, and a constant leveling Upstate. Alright guys and gals. Thanks for listening.
