The Mark of Perfection

Perfection or Greatness?

Hey Time to Shine Squad!

As most of you know I love reading and studying the Stoics (Marcus Aurelius, Seneca are my two faves).  One thing about the stoics is they started every day striving for perfection. Now I’ve come to realize that none of them really thought they could achieve perfection, but every day they did their best (or at least tried to).

Marcus Aurelius is known for every day striving for perfection. Knowing there is so much to gain in the trying.  Like the Tim McGraw song ‘Live Like You Were Dying’.

This is the mark of perfection of character – to spend each day as if it were your last, without frenzy, laziness, or any pretending. – Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 7.69

That’s how I choose to live daily.  I know every day will show me different struggles and obstacles.  I’ve learned to look at those as opportunities now more than a roadblock to stop me.  Almost like a challenge, a puzzle. It forces me to laterally think and I make a game of it.  Not every day do I hit my mark of perfection (actually have never achieved perfection), but I will tell you this, it’s not for a lack of trying.

In his book ‘Winning Every Day’ by Lou Holzt who is one of the best college football coaches of all time states that if you strive for perfection daily you just might achieve greatness!  And honestly that would be alright with me!

So my challenge to you is to please wake up every day.  Be grateful to your creator that you are here and have the opportunity to be better than the you of yesterday.  Trust me on this, if you do the peace of mind when you turn in for the night will be like a release like no other.

Here is a quick knowledge nugget video that I put together with my thoughts.

I’d love to know your thoughts! And also any tips you could share with me on how I could keep leveling up my daily game!

As I stated before Lou Holtz was an outstanding coach for my hated rival Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. But his book ‘Winning Every Day’ is a must read. Check it out here!
