Unknown Speaker  0:00

Hey this is Stephen Somers with marketplace superheroes and if you really want to learn how to level up your life you should be listening to the time to shine today podcast with my good friend Mr. Scott Ferguson.

Unknown Speaker  0:12

Hey, time to shine today podcast Farsi squatted Scott Ferguson word Episode 215. I did things a little bit different lot of times they interview coaches, consultants, whatnot. But this time I brought on from marketplace superheroes. Mr. Steven summers, he’s over in Ireland. But his process for really helping you legitimately I’m going to emphasize legitimately making money on line is phenomenal. I am starting into the process myself. I believe in this I also believe in Steven. And also he was brought to me by a really good friend of mine, Rachel Clancy, who is just a fantastic legend in her own right. And I’m so glad I did this interview, I have pages of notes. If you’re seriously looking at whether it’s a side hustle or making a legitimate full time generating money for yourself online. Please sit back, relax, break out your notebooks. Okay, I’m serious. Check this one out. So without further ado, here’s my really good friend Steven summers from marketplace superheroes. Let’s level up.

Unknown Speaker  1:24

Time to shine today podcast varsity squad. This is Scott Ferguson and I got my boy Steven summers from across the pond like literally, I’m in South Florida. And he is an island. He is the co founder of marketplace superheroes, an online education and services company that helps people all over the world. Learn how to sell their own products globally on Amazon from complete scratch. This is so like I’m so into this by the way. And you people that know me and have listened to my podcast where I monologue I talk a lot about kind of affiliate marketing. And this just falls right into it. So together, Stephen and his partner Robert has one two comma club awards for marketplace superheroes, which is now an eight figure business and the guys who have helped over 7000 people, it’s probably higher than that now to create multiple income streams. And this is just awesome. I’m Stumbling on my words, because I’m really excited. I tried to hide my excitement from Steven off camera. But I am super, super stoked to Steven, welcome time to shine today. Please introduce yourself to the podcast varsity squad, but first even What’s your favorite color? And why?

Unknown Speaker  2:34

It’s green? And most because I’m Irish. It’s it that has to be the answer.

Unknown Speaker  2:39

I love it. I love it. Man. I there’s a method to my madness for the color. But we won’t get into that now. But it’s also for marketing, and whatnot. But see, let’s get to the origin stories before you kind of, you know, built this into a basically a two comma award winning business if you don’t mind, please.

Unknown Speaker  2:59

Yeah, sure. And we’ve won. That’s it. That’s it from clickfunnels as well the two comma club award and we’ve lost so maybe Yeah, six or seven of those now at this point, which is crazy. So yeah, I’m 33, almost 34 years old, just for reference and my age, just simply be looking kind of place that. And I started this whole business 11 years ago. And before I started this business, I was not a good business person, I was a data processor. I was typing information into forums into computer all day, incredibly boring, not exciting. But like a lot of people, you know, I wanted to do something else. And for me, college, etc. finishing college just wasn’t really for me, I didn’t finish, I studied business. And I thought I want to do something for myself. So I’m there. I’m working in this job trying to make it in the music industry. But that didn’t work out. As you might have guessed, I was actually a singer in a band at the time. And that all fell apart. And I was like, What the hell am I gonna do with my life, I don’t want to work as a data processor. I don’t want to finish college, I got to do something. So luckily for me, I started searching online, you know how to make money online. And as anybody knows, if you search that, you’re gonna find some weird stuff, right? Good stuff, not some good things, especially, you know, talking 1112 years ago. And so I tried all these different programs, none of them worked. I never did anything with any material. Luckily for me, my aunt heard that I was on the lookout for a business and someone to help me. And she also heard that I was interested in doing e commerce at the time, because I thought I don’t have to be an expert in anything. I can sell good products to people, I can feel good about what I do. This is what I want to do. And so her friend Robert, still my business partner to this day, was selling products on eBay on Amazon at the time only in the UK. But now we do this globally. And actually 60 70% of our clients are actually from the States just to give that as well. So I mean, this guy, six foot two big Irish guy big beard loves drinking beer. Very, very cool guy and I’m like, really? Exactly right. So strange red hair as well. Right? Wow, who would have thought? This guy I’m like, I don’t know why this guy’s got something he just had. about him, he knew what he was talking about. So I went there was warehouse, freezing cold couple of rats running around, but loads of products being sold to real people. And I thought, this is for me, I this is real. This is tangible. This is something I can get behind. And so I quit my job, I moved in with my aunt in her in her spare room. And I started working with this guy, Robert, and I basically worked for nine months in the warehouse for free. I was selling some of his second hand products on the site on eBay, learning how to write listings, how to do all these different things. And so we started really getting very close and working together every day. And so we decided then at that point, you know, he had to eat to warehouses. He ate staff, he was doing all the work themselves. And we heard about Amazon FBA, which basically is their fulfillment service, where we can send our products to their warehouses, they’ll ship them on our behalf, the Luda customer services and our behalf, we got very excited about this and thought, let’s have a business where we sell all over the world, not just in the UK, we only sell on Amazon. And we only sell our own branded products, also known as private label items, right? And so we did that we got rid of everybody got rid of everything. It took us about 18 months, because we restarted everything. But in 18 months, we get the business to about $1.6 million a year in revenue at a 30% net profit, which was quite nice. And then we did that for a couple of years. I mean, enjoyed it. Life is good. We’re doing the four hour workweek kind of thing. And then of course, people start asking us how the hell you two weirdos? How do you how do you just like traveling around the place with your family? How do you go into Disney and still making money? So we started showing some people locally? And then you know, more and more people wanted to know. And sure, long story short 8000 members, now we’re a figure yearly company, we have a freight business as well, we’re going to ship about 10 to 15 million items from China to the US, UK, Australia, Canada. And it’s a pretty, it’s a pretty big deal. Now we can certainly dive into that. But I wanted to try and get it out for you because I know you got

Unknown Speaker  6:54

that man. So it is Amazon kind of your main hub for lack of a better term that you like marketplace superheroes. Okay,

Unknown Speaker  7:02

so yeah, we’re Marcus Shapiro’s, we teach Amazon specifically. And all of our services are geared towards Amazon sellers that we work with. So our freight company makes it really inexpensive for people to ship from China to these different countries. And also, we actually do a lot of the work for our planes. Whereas you’d have to go find like a freight company, and if you didn’t have us, so we make a lot of those things easy for our members. So they can just focus on finding the right products, and then just getting them for sale. And then we do pretty much all the other stuff.

Unknown Speaker  7:30

And is it again, I’m flying blind, a lot of this. So forgive me if I’m asking what is it like drop shipping? Yeah, it’s

Unknown Speaker  7:37

a great question. It isn’t actually. And so drop shipping for anybody who’s not sure of Jeremy briefly explained it. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker  7:42

absolutely. Please do. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker  7:44

So with drop shipping, you’re talking about having your own website, your own way to sell something a distribution channel of some kind, right. So let’s say it’s your own website. And I find that Scott has a whole bunch of different products in stock, and he’s going to ship them out to anybody and around the world that I sell to. So I have my website, I sell to, let’s say, people in America, and I sell my plastic shoe boxes. And so then I tell Scott, hey, Scott, I just sold a plastic shoe box. Hooray for me, can you ship this out? on my behalf you say? Absolutely, that’s gonna be $20 I give you the 20 bucks, because someone just gave me 40 because they bought it from me. So I make 20 bucks, you make 20 bucks, overly simplified, but as dropship. And all we’re doing is we’re actually saying we’re gonna go to Amazon and we’re gonna find an opportunity, multiple opportunities, a products that we can actually manufacture ourselves with, with a supplier. They already are producing these. But we’re saying manufacture some of these with these little bonus items. Put my brand on this product. So it’s my brand, I own it. And then I’m going to import that I’m going to send a small quantity into Amazon, I’m going to leave the rest in our warehouses, because you can send them just all into Amazon. They’ll say we’re not taking in 1000s of your thing. Just kidding. A few are a big part

Unknown Speaker  8:59

of what we do you guys have your own warehouses.

Unknown Speaker  9:02

Yeah, yeah. Our warehouse in Houston, Texas is 35,000 square feet. And oh, it’s crazy. Man. We’ve got a warehouse in the UK. It’s pretty huge in Australia, in Brisbane and open Alberta, Canada as well. And that’s a big thing I want to just say as well, like a lot of people hear about Amazon courses, right. And again, we have got a program and everything. But the bigger thing Scott is like if you don’t have these different services, like your logistics and things like that, it’s very difficult to make this business operate, you have to go and find all this stuff. So we actually have gone when marketplace superheroes is we brought everything into one place. So you literally can go into one place online login. And you can do your shipping there from China. You can do your translations there. You can do your product photography, you can tell us hey, I want to get this photograph for you guys. Um, because we have all these warehouses and all this done for our members. It’s just really simple. Whereas if you didn’t have us, it’s it’s a long process of finding all these different people and trying to find who to trust as well as difficult,

Unknown Speaker  10:01

right? I love it because a lot of people hop on, they try to arbitrage and they try all that other stuff. But this is like their own private label and they have that pride in it, right? It’s like there might not have invented the product. But they can actually sell a product but their own private labeling on it, and make it that that’s awesome. And Scott, I already talked to Steve, he’s gonna come back in a future episode, and I’m calling is 2.0, Steven summers 2.0. And really dig deep into what it is. And I will draw it just leave a message, or email us back if you’ve listened to it on if you’re on our list, and we’ll make sure that you hear that interview as well. But, Stephen, so what do you think? Okay, let’s say, what do you think people’s biggest blind spot is? When they’re trying to make that money online? What do you think their biggest blind spot is?

Unknown Speaker  10:53

Yeah,

Unknown Speaker  10:54

the biggest one, in my opinion, is that people don’t follow what I would call a pre proven process. And, and I thought about this a lot, because when I started out, I was trying to, I was like, let me just search random business ideas online. And if they exist, I can’t do it, which is ridiculous. Now I look back at it. But that was my belief about what business is. So the way you’re you succeed, really, if you’re a total beginner, is it I don’t care if it’s me or somebody else, find a process that makes sense. And find someone who’s had been successful with that. We’re not talking about nonsense, what they’re saying makes sense. And then just execute that right from A to Z. Because what you’re going to do is there, you’re going to learn how to run an entire business from start to finish. What most people do myself included is they go into all these different random programs, they never really execute on anything. And they end up doing bits and pieces of stuff. And they’re just they’re nowhere,

Unknown Speaker  11:44

right with us. Yes,

Unknown Speaker  11:46

yeah. Right.

Unknown Speaker  11:47

If you take like $500 a month, that is something or $100 a month, that is something, you’ve actually learned a process,

Unknown Speaker  11:53

you can throw that from there, right? So others in a day, you can make $100,000 in a day, right?

Unknown Speaker  12:00

I’ve done both of those things. And it’s totally possible. It’s just there’s a process behind everything. So once you understand, like, if someone gives you this big promise, well, that’s cool. But there’s always a process behind that. And it’s my opinion that I call them the Lambo, guys, you know, that is promising too much too quick. I just think it’s like, that’s cool and all, but if you can just get down and follow a simple process executed, you will change your life more than anything else is the biggest blind spot. We’re always looking for the next shiny object, the next secret and the reality of businesses, there’s really no big secret.

Unknown Speaker  12:34

It’s just put something out there. Right. Yeah, it all leads back. So when you’re starting maybe to work with somebody? Or is there any good question? Is there any good question that you wish they would ask you, but never do?

Unknown Speaker  12:50

Yeah,

Unknown Speaker  12:51

that’s a great question. Actually. I would say in our line of business, it would be what’s the most reliable method for finding low competition products? that that would be like, the best question because that is going to unearth your opportunity. It’s like, if you can find low competition products that sell every single day that are proven, and you can come into that market, you can be successful. Whereas what a lot of people do in the Amazon space is they ask the wrong question. And they go after hyper competitive areas, they follow people who only talk about hyper competitive products. As a result of that, they end up getting into a sticky situation where they have to pull money that is and whatnot, or their process is just so much simpler. We go the other way, simpler products, low competition, and get them into multiple countries. And you’d be amazed how simple it is. When you go that route reverses the other route. So that would be my question.

Unknown Speaker  13:42

I think people I love it. I love and that’s what I think people should ask as well in pretty much any business man, you know, what the the way to get the lowest competition and have the best chance from the start. So you’re not grinding against people that are just killing an area. So talk to us about a fail forward in that eight figure business man, like tell us about a fail that you learn from and failed, failed forward that you that you can share with us, bro.

Unknown Speaker  14:08

Yeah, but my first product was a great example of that. Like I just before I met Robert, I was so sick and tired of never executing anything. Like I mentioned. I just thought right, I’m going to buy something. So I saw crean Canvas wardrobes, right. I bought a whole bunch of them from China. I brought them in with a kind of half hearted brand on it. I started selling the money then Amazon, right? And you want to know something? I made absolutely no money, but it didn’t lose any money. So I failed in inverted commas. But actually, that was my biggest learning and biggest The best thing that’s ever happened because I learned well, I put money into something. I didn’t die number one, I got my money back and then number two is like, I can just improve. I know what to do now. Right? That’s all you know,

Unknown Speaker  14:48

I love that man. And if that goes across anything in life, you know, I’m a jujitsu practitioner. And it’s like every day you learn it’s like we always say you know you we don’t either win or lose. I never lose. You know what I’m saying then that love that you took that from that you found that silver lining. So have you saw the movie or seen the movie Back to the Future? That’s one of my favorite films of all. Okay, let’s get that DeLorean with Marty McFly, man, and you said you’re in your early 30s. Let’s go back to the 20 year old. You know, Steven summers, what kind of knowledge nuggets we call that that’s what we call them here at time to shine today, what kind of knowledge nuggets you drop in on that 20 year old Steven to maybe help them shorten his learning curve level up and blast through.

Unknown Speaker  15:29

I’m just making a video about this at the moment for myself. And one of the biggest things I would tell myself would be long term thinking, you know, we all want overnight results, we all want to make 100 grand in the next 90 days or less. But when you’re a total beginner, you’ve never got any experience, you have to understand it’s gonna take time, allow things to take time be cool that it takes time, that would be the first thing. The second thing is I would just echo what I said earlier on about finding a pre proven process and executing that the next thing I would say that it aligns with that perfectly actually is, you know, don’t be a consumer be a producer. So we’ve got 100% is our is our opportunity. And then you’ve got an 8020 rule, you want to have 80% of your time is executing, producing 20% is consuming taken on the information. Therefore you should be producing four times more than you’re consuming a lot of people our ratio is completely at a bounce off from that, then I would just say you got to find someone who knows what the hell they’re talking about. Yeah, this would ever take panco Yes, labor, whatever it takes, you know, pictures of them in the knowledge,

Unknown Speaker  16:30

man, even knowledge, we call it you’re asking gear, like ask, you know, ask questions. So how do you want your dash remembered Steven, that little line in between your incarnation date and your expiration date? Man, your life date and death date? How

Unknown Speaker  16:43

do you want that little dash remembered on your tombstone? Brother? For me, I would say his he focused on other people and wanted the best for them. And that’s what he did. I would do I think

Unknown Speaker  16:55

I’m gonna add to that for you, if you don’t mind, but you are probably never going to sit in the shade of the seed that you planted that tree man. Because what you’re doing every day, because in your line of business, and correct me if I’m wrong, Amazon’s changing stuff every day. So you’ve got to flow with that, which allows you to plant those seeds every day. And you’re never going to see the gestation period, because what you’re planning is so frickin awesome, dude, it’s so exciting. They talk to you, but I appreciate you being transparent. So Stephen, what do you think people misunderstand about you the most?

Unknown Speaker  17:30

About Me or about you? About me? that’s a that’s a good question. I would say people probably believe that I am some kind of a Superman. I never, I never doubt myself. I never have struggles when what they don’t realize is like, I mean, when I first met Robert, my still my business partner, like I believe for the first couple years, I had nothing to offer this guy. I don’t know why he’s helping me out. I don’t know why he wants me to be his business partner. And he’s out of his mind, I suppose now when I look, look at where we are now. And what we’ve done. It’s only in the last few years, I’ve truly started to believe in myself. And that’s a big point that I’d like to make today that anyone listening, stopped believing in yourself. I think it’s a real opportunity when I stopped the trend to believe in myself. And I believe in what Robert was telling me what he was showing me. I believed in the process that he was talking about. And I just I just focused on that my life got a lot better, or is anger all told by these motivational people who are great, but we’re told we can’t believe in yourself. If you’ve never been successful something before. How can you believe in yourself? Because you’ve never done that. So find someone someone to believe in. That’s That’s the key.

Unknown Speaker  18:32

Bob. That’s awesome. Excuse my language. That was awesome, bro. So what keeps you up at night?

Unknown Speaker  18:39

Yeah, what keeps me up at night is not. I fear that I’m not going to leave a mark. And I know it sounds egotistical. But no, I, I really want other people to be successful. I care about my members success more than I care about my own. And that that is true. I mean, people look at me nowadays and say, Hey, you used to have a lifestyle business. It’s not a lifestyle business anymore. Are you cool with that? I say Yeah. Because you know, what’s more exciting for me is seeing 10 million items being shipped this year seeing the impact, rather than little Steven and Robert just sitting in a Jacuzzi somewhere, you know, thinking aren’t we great for making some money on Amazon? I think that’s a much better purpose. Right? But yeah,

Unknown Speaker  19:24

that’s awesome, man. That’s awesome. And you are you’re changing lives in you’re doing it like inch by inch. You know, like we say inch by inch. It’s a cinch, you know, by the yard. It’s hard. Like everybody wants that six figure business like right now. And there’s that gestation period, right? I mean, you kind of plant that seed and cultivate that thing. So what is Stephens definition of a life well lived?

Unknown Speaker  19:51

It goes back to what I said earlier on, and it’s, there’s an old line, it’s easy to get what you want. You have to deserve what you want, right? And so for me deserving, what I want is directly related to the impact on other people. So it was that Zig Ziglar quote, right? You can have anything you want as long as you help enough other people get what they want. And that’s what I focus on everyday like what can I do for other people? It might my network in my in my business and and I know you’re a fan of that right you’ve got the interview Bob Byrd recently one of the great guys I talked about not so long ago, you go give her you know, and that my neighbor? I heard that as well actually. That’s great to know. But that that is the key in my opinion, being a go giver.

Unknown Speaker  20:31

Yeah, love it, man. I love that you brought up Bobby man. That’s, that’s awesome. So and hey, time to shine today podcast versus squad. We are back with a marketplace superhero himself. Okay, dude, I say 32 all day for me. You know, I’m coming up on 50. And I would take 32 Yeah, yeah, those 72 Thanks, man. Appreciate it, brother. So what’s your favorite charity and organization? Give your time or money to? Yeah, there’s

Unknown Speaker  22:55

Unknown Speaker  23:11

Unknown Speaker  23:21

I love it. I’m an atheist guy. You know, but but I love the 90s too as well. So Steven, how can we find your brother? Yeah,

Unknown Speaker  24:13

Yeah, I mentioned it earlier I’m gonna mention it again is to get what you want. You’ve got to deserve what you want. And the final piece of that quote is the world is not a crazy enough place yet to reward a whole bunch of undeserving people. I came from Charlie Munger one of the greatest investors in the world, right? And that’s the thing you got to you got to deserve what you want. If you’re not if you’re not happy with where you are in life right now, look at what you’ve been doing. Do you deserve to be there? He deserved to be in the place where you’re not happy? Or do you deserve to be more successful and I think you’ll find the answers in that

in squad. That’s fantastic. You know when coming in this interview, I didn’t know it’s a little bit different than what I really the people that I interview and this listening to this is blown my mind because I got pages of notes and after watching on YouTube, I got France backs on another page here for my really good Friend Stephen summers just tells you, and he’s stressed it throughout the interview to follow a pre proven process, okay? don’t invent reinvent anything, follow the pre proven process, you know, he wants you to under promise and over deliver, you want you to execute that simple process to the best of your ability. And if you get stuck, get your asking gear and ask for help. And that’s where you can go to marketplace superheroes man, there’ll be a link in the show notes. If this is what you’re really looking to level up, we can put you in touch with marketplace superheroes, you know, he believes in long term thinking, in that he also believes that there’s a gestation period, kind of like the acorn, man, it’s it, there’s a lot of acorns a fall but that one that’s cultivated that gets the right soil that gets the right sunlight grows. And that’s what he did, Stephen did by meeting Robert and he really grew that into the oak it is right now he wants you to be a producer, not a consumer, remember that 80% should be producing 20% should be consuming. That means you four times more producing than consuming, get into that. And basically don’t believe in yourself. I’m just gonna leave it at that because I want you to go back if you don’t remember. Just go back and listen to that part. And he wants you to be successful. It’s important to him that you’re successful. And also make sure that you deserve what you want. There’s a value proposition that make sure that what you’re going to get you deserve. That means the value that provide must exceed what you’re going to get under promise. over deliver. That’s what my guy here does. I love its guts, man. He’s full of energy. He’s fantastic. He levels up his health. He levels up as well. He’s humble yet hungry. Stephen, thank you so much for coming on. Time to shine today, brother. I cannot wait to collaborate with you in the future. I got subscribers upon subscribers. It’s going to be interested in your system. I can’t wait so much, man. Love you, brother.
