Time to shine to date Episode 009 journaling for the win. This is Scott Ferguson. Let’s level up

a time to shine squad at Scott Ferguson here. And I wanted to bring up something that a lot of people don’t do that I didn’t do up until about five years ago. 2014. I started journaling in 2014. And wow, what a difference it made with regards to my outlook on life, how I proceed into new ventures, how I handle everyday distractions, how I handle people that maybe rubbed me the wrong way, or if I’m rubbing someone else the wrong way it allows me to catch myself and change the dynamic of it. I don’t even know what else to say that because it journaling has just changed my life. I used to think when I was younger man, a journal. It’s just, let’s say Having a diary and Isn’t that like for girls and nothing against women, but it just boys. We didn’t grow up with diaries. Girls did, but it’s not a diary, someone that I learned a lot from Robin Sharma, you know, he says that a diary is a place where you record events while a journal is a place where you analyze and evaluate them. Wow, that’s huge. So when you put stuff on paper, or in your computer like I do, it reinforces the learning lesson. So when when I journal it took me a little bit to turn I when I first started journaling, I wanted to make it perfect and whatnot. But then I took a little key from Matt Flynn or Matt Flynn, Pat Flynn, sorry, Pat, Pat Flynn, where he’s just like, throw up on the paper. So I literally when I wake up in the morning, when I’m my morning routine, which includes journaling, I just keep on typing. I use Google Drive, and I just type type type type type. I don’t care if they’re spelling errors, I just get out what’s inside my head. And I do that Five to six days a week, more like five days a week. Sometimes I take a couple days off journaling, but I’m always leaving notes in my Google Keep to add to my journal for my next journal day. But I tried to Well, I don’t try I just do journal minimum of five days a week. But again, by doing that, you make fewer mistakes in life, because you actually reinforces you by putting it in putting it on paper. Okay, so, a really big benefit of journaling is what you experience. You can draw lessons from, which will make you wiser, okay, so, I mean, I read proverbs every morning, and I always say it, it’s 31 books in the Bible, or 31 books in Proverbs. And so there’s 30 to 31 days in the month so I just read a book or a chapter out of Proverbs every day and it makes me wiser so that those properties are almost like a journal of it in itself. So when I write in it, this is the crazy thing is I look back. And using Google Drive is awesome, because I can have a bad day and I can go in and search for something. I’ve had a bad day before. And I can find where I journaled about it. And I can make it right. Think about that. If you’re having a bad day, you can go in and say, somebody pissed you off, someone rubs you the wrong way, you can go in and look for those keywords. See how you handled it moving forward, and then change your thinking. Yes, that was a snap, just like that. That is huge. To have it on paper, and be able to look back at your experiences and if you’re like me that wants to always progress in life. Always move forward, forward thinking always, always doing that. You sometimes will get stuck in ruts. And I can look back at my journal, and I can say okay, this is how I fixed it. There. I know it can be fixed and this will go back to a prior episode of the superhero syndrome where you think that you’ve got to fall to the bottom before getting back up. The second you start to feel yourself falling get into your journal, look for what you did before. So you don’t sabotage yourself again in the journal will actually help you make the wise decision. Okay Sharma says it keeps you focus helps you live more intentional and enlightened. Okay, so that is really what I’m trying to say to you right now is always stay enlightened, always progress always move forward. journaling will an underlying that underscore however you want to think it will help you progress because it helps you learn from your experiences without trying to dig deep into your mind that’s already like a duck on a pond where you look like you’re fine on the surface but your feet are going up a zillion miles a minute. Okay, so it will help you Learn from your mistakes, it’ll help you not make the same mistakes. And if you feel like you’re starting to make one, you can dig back into it and fix it before you’re falling to the bottom. So you don’t have to become a superhero to pull yourself back up. How do I journal? I use Google Drive. I’m hoping that it is secure and saved as Google says it is. But I have a lot of stuff in there. I don’t put names other than my lovely lady Susan, who I give gratitude every day to a have start every day with my gratitude. So I write five to 10 things or type five or 10 things and I’m grateful for it. From there. I have what’s called a learning journal which underneath it, I have an area where I pull a quote, whether it’s from somebody that I really respect that I’m always reading Of course, I always mentioned the name Randy Gage, Bob Burg, Robin Sharma, Tony Robbins, les miles Jim Rohn, James Arthur Ray in anybody that really touches a chord with me, I’ll put a question from them, and it’s nice because I can go back into the journal and see that learning quote and just be like pull myself out of a rut sometimes as well. So I use Google Drive. And I would recommend that or let an Evernote or whatever is you’re going to use to make sure it’s organized. So you can go back and find things quickly putting it on paper is great. But going back and finding something on paper is pretty hard to do. And I’m not trying to discourage you from writing on paper, but I use it digitally. So I can go back and pull so I can stay enlightened. And I can stay more in focus and I can live life more intentional. hope that makes sense to you. Okay, so please, please, please, if there’s one thing that I can recommend that was recommended to me, is start journaling, put stuff on paper, put stuff into your Google Drive or whatever digital media that you use.
