What happens when a visionary entrepreneur and his daughter set out to redefine the meaning of success? In this powerful conversation, Coach Fergie sits down with Dilip and Shama Barot, the father-daughter team behind Amrit Ocean Resort & Residences on Singer Island. Dilip, founder of Creative Choice Group, has spent decades building businesses around a simple but powerful belief: true success should create not only wealth, but also wellness, opportunity, and impact. Alongside him, Shama Barot, a Wharton MBA graduate and co-founder of Amrit, is helping lead a movement that blends ancient wellness traditions with modern science, luxury hospitality, mindfulness, nutrition, fitness, sleep, and longevity. Together, they explore leadership, purpose, human connection, personalized wellness, and how to create a life where success and well-being work together instead of competing with one another. If you’re ready to rethink what it means to truly thrive, this is an episode you won’t want to miss.

Success is not the same as wellbeing. Recently, I was coaching a client, runs a hedge fund with over a billion under management. By every traditional measure, he’s [00:01:00] winning. The business is thriving, the numbers are there, the respect is there. But during our conversation, he’d admit something many high performers won’t say out loud.
He was exhausted. Not physically exhausted, life exhausted. Because somewhere along the way, many of us learn how to build a living, but we forget how to build a life. We become disciplined in our work and undisciplined in our recovery. We become intentional about our goals and accidental about our health.
We spend years chasing success, only to realize we’re running low on the very energy needed to enjoy it. So here’s the takeaway. The goal isn’t to make a living and then someday start living. The goal is to build a life worth living while you’re making a living. Because if success costs you your health, your relationship, your purpose, or your peace, the price is simply too high.
Because success matters, but success without wellbeing isn’t success at all, it’s just another form of bankruptcy. And today we’re gonna talk to two people who have dedicated their lives to helping others rethink that equation. We’re joined by a father-daughter team that’s not just building luxury real estate, they’re building a new way to live.
Dilip Barrett is the founder of Creative Choice Group, a global [00:02:00] entrepreneur, and the visionary behind Amrit Ocean Resort and Residences on Singer Island. From immigrant roots to developing millions of square feet of real estate across the globe, Dilip has built his legacy around one powerful idea: business should create wealth, but it should also create wellness, opportunity, and impact.
And joining him is his daughter, Shama Barrett, co-founder of the strategic force helping shape Amrit into one of the most unique wellness destinations in the country. A Wharton MBA graduate with deep hospitality experience, Shama brings the next generation vision, blending ancient Indian wellness traditions, modern science, luxury hospitality, and mindfulness, nutrition, fitness, sleep, and relaxation, a full lifestyle experience.
Together, Dilip and Shama are leading Amrit Ocean Resort and Residences right here in South Florida, where luxury meets longevity, where the ocean becomes part of the healing process, and where wellness is not treated like a weekend escape, it’s built into the way you live. So this is a conversation, squat, a lot about legacy.
Basically a little anti-aging and be able to live your best life. And I gotta ask, either one of [00:03:00] you two can answer this question, okay? But if I asked your employees who’s the tougher boss is, would they give the same answer? Oh, I’m hearing a lot of quiet in here.
Dilup Barot: I think neither one of us are tough.
We just support and also hold them accountable.
L. Scott Ferguson: I love it. I love it. We were talking off mic- Correct … about accountability and how important that is, right? Yes. That’s beautiful. So you’ve often spoke about capitalism with heart, and I’ve read about that. I did a deep dive into… And the Awesome Squad, I’m gonna hit pause.
A huge thank you to my good friend Josie the PR rep for them that brought him in. Thank you so much. I’m looking at her. She’s saying, “You’re welcome back,” with a big smile on her face. But Dil, again, you’ve spoken about capitalism with heart. In a world where many companies chase profits at all costs, what does that philosophy actually look like in practice?
Dilup Barot: I think we should live the life in whole. We are part of the universe. We are the best creation of the universe as a human being. Oh, my
L. Scott Ferguson: gosh. Absolutely.
Dilup Barot: And we forget to give other things more importance-
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes …
Dilup Barot: and start [00:04:00] buying into what others are saying. And capitalism has really grown a big, almost to the point most of the people in the world has become the slave of capitalism-
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes.
…
Dilup Barot: And compromise their own peace, happiness, and longevity.
And that’s where I always was more interested in totality of the life-
…
Dilup Barot: Rather than just one portion, which is capitalism. It’s important component-
…
Dilup Barot: But it’s not the life.
L. Scott Ferguson: And I… Squad, I love that, that it’s not just the life.
And it’s what I broke with my knowledge nugget, ’cause I always do a coaching nugget before, that kind of meshes in with my guests that are about to come in. So again you’re not expecting them to leave the capitalism mindset, but just make capitalism part of their wellness as well.
Correct. Yeah, I love that. And Shama, wellness has become, a buzzword right out there. So what are most people getting wrong about wellness, and what does true wellbeing actually look like from your perspective? What do you think they’re getting wrong, first?
Shama Barot: I think right now we are in a time where everything is about hyper performance.
Hyper [00:05:00] tracking. It’s almost like what was, what started out being about balance ended up becoming about data and numbers.
L. Scott Ferguson: Wow. Yes.
Shama Barot: And I think while the data and the numbers are important, here’s an easy example. You see me wearing the Oura Ring.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes.
Shama Barot: When I started wearing the Oura Ring, I would wake up every morning, look at my app, and my app would tell me how I slept.
Yes. And I would decide how I felt.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes.
Shama Barot: Yes. Because when, before you got this ring- … would you do that? You woke up in the morning and you decide how you felt. Love
L. Scott Ferguson: that.
Shama Barot: So for me, that was a wake-up call.
Yes, it’s data. Yes, it’s important. Yes, it may guide me to say, “Okay, you know what? Maybe I don’t wanna have a late meal because it does affect my sleep.”
And now I know why.
But it doesn’t mean it’s the only metric, and I think that’s key to what we’re doing at Amrit. We’re combining both the ancient and the modern for that very reason.
L. Scott Ferguson: Love that.
Shama Barot: So wellbeing for us is really about balance. Yes, take [00:06:00] the data, take the metrics, do all the measurements.
I mean- … I am a data freak. I love it. I
L. Scott Ferguson: love it.
Shama Barot: But find the balance in there and learn to live with it.
L. Scott Ferguson: I love it. It sounds a lot like you guys have harmony. I, and I’m not challenging you on your balance or anything, but I think balance, you put 10 pounds, 10 pounds, it’s zero, where harmony is I, me and my fiance, we love jazz, right?
So we’ll go find jazz bands and God might be the drums. Your, or your spiritual might be the drums. Your family might be the piano. The horns might be your money. Your job might be, the guitar. If one of them’s out of tune, it sounds like poo, right?
Dilup Barot: Correct.
L. Scott Ferguson: But if you can go, say, go to Amrit, get tuned back up, get that harmony in, back in place, ’cause there’s balance within the harmony, right?
So you gotta go in and tune that, balance it out, and have, live that harmonic life. Hence my book coming out, a real quick plug, Harmonic Hustle, coming to Amazon and all the bookstores here soon. But I love that you brought up balance, and that you’re, have to have that within to live the complete life.
And I’m a huge believer also in I got rid of my Oura Ring ’cause [00:07:00] I was doing the same thing. I was, like, looking at it, going, “Oh, man, I did have bad sleep. I’m gonna have a bad day.” It almost talks you into it. But so Dilip Amrit was conceived long before wellness became mainstream, right? Yes, sir.
You’ve thought about this. And what did you see 10 to 15 years ago that others weren’t seeing yet?
Dilup Barot: I like to live consciously. While I am human- Love it … I’m unique. We are all equal but unique in many ways. And so I love the pay attention to my uniqueness. And my peace, happiness, and longevity became more important.
Love it. Just like any stage, like maybe at certain age everybody, like between 40s and 50s- yes … wherever that, that point may be, people said, “Okay, my peace, happiness, and longevity is important.” When I started feeling that, I started doing… Actually going back to my roots, which I grew up in a temple-
L. Scott Ferguson: Okay
Dilup Barot: where I learn many things which now I’m practicing more and more, and I see the wisdom in that ancient science, inner science.
L. Scott Ferguson: Wow.
Dilup Barot: And [00:08:00] I respected the outer science, which is we see in the world today.
L. Scott Ferguson: Sure.
Dilup Barot: And I felt like I can combine both and really find a way that each person can have his or her personalized wellness roadmap, personalized- Wow
wellness coach- … and then achieve his or her own personalized wellness a- any given point in, in, in a life.
Because life keeps evolving.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes. And you guys have that at Amrit, right? Where you have, like you… Is there a onboarding, if you will, if they’re gonna come visit and have a stay with you- Absolutely
and have somebody, a professional reaches out to them and is gonna set that weekend up of, yes, they’re gonna have fun, great dinners, Michelin chefs. But Shama is there also like a protocol that they can sign up for to-
Shama Barot: Very
L. Scott Ferguson: much … reach into their healing?
Shama Barot: So two-fold of that. First, about nine years ago we filed a patent on our personalized wellness support system.
L. Scott Ferguson: Oh, wow.
Shama Barot: So that is literally the protocol that goes deep into kind of like you’re coaching, right? It’s all about curiosity.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes.
Shama Barot: It’s about where is it that you [00:09:00] are and where is it that you want to go?
And then we work with you because think about it, in today’s day and age, there’s so much information out there.
Yeah. Do I eat keto? Do I eat carnivore? Yes. Am I a vegan? Am I a vegetarian? Do I eat organic? There’s just, there’s so much information. And so- Having our personalized wellness guide work with you and create your own individually curated, what we call personalized wellness roadmap.
And from there, to take it a step further, it’s all about accountability, right? But it’s also about support. So then we give you a personalized wellness assistant to help you day in and day out with the tools, the tips, and the resources. Because at the end of the day, wellness for us, we say it’s wellness for life.
And the reason we say it is because we believe it’s not prescriptive. It’s not about going away to a wellness resort for a couple of days and doing all the right things. It’s about cr- creating a lifestyle that can help you with the reality of your life, of [00:10:00] your chaos, of your demands.
Those things aren’t gonna go away. It’s
L. Scott Ferguson: catered and customized. I absolutely love that. A- and Dilip, you’ve developed thousands of residential units and led companies employing thousands of people. Let- let’s talk leadership for the next minute or so. What leadership lessons has that success taught you?
‘Cause a lot of my listeners out there are looking for that guidance, looking for that leadership. What has it, taught you?
Dilup Barot: I think to be a good leader, first you have to be good leader for yourself In other word, I really want to improve the good quality I practice.
Which is taught in bibles and every good lifestyle book if you look at it.
Sure. So I like to practice all the good value day, every day better, and better. Just like people go to build what their muscles at the gym.
I like to build what the word in u- ancient science is called vritti.
L. Scott Ferguson: Okay.
Dilup Barot: Which is a combi- Vritti?
L. Scott Ferguson: Vritti. Okay,
Dilup Barot: got you. It’s part of the Patanjali Yoga, eight limbs of the Patan- Patanjali Yoga sutra.
Sure,
L. Scott Ferguson: it’s
Dilup Barot: like an ashtanga. It’s like- Ashtanga, yes … yes. Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama- … Pratyahara, Dharana [00:11:00] and Samadhi. That’s what I practice, yes.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yeah.
Dilup Barot: So Chitta Vritti Nirodh is the essence of really finding the way of your peace, happiness. Wow. It teaches you how you manage your emotion and thought-
At any given condition, and not get carried away-
…
Dilup Barot: Where you lose your peace, happiness. And so that’s what I want to be first, good leader for myself and people around me.
L. Scott Ferguson: The proof’s in the pudding.
Dilup Barot: Correct. If they’re gonna see it, they’re gonna follow that. So I have to practice this, all this thing.
Exactly.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes.
Dilup Barot: And then be a more servant leadership.
Yes. Support them.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yeah.
Dilup Barot: Support them, rather than dictating it.
Because each person is, has his or her own journey at any given point.
L. Scott Ferguson: At all times,
Dilup Barot: You have to respect them as a good leader. You can’t ignore that. We give too much importance to some- sometimes this SOP and other things- and forget the humanity. We are not machine.
Even though we believe in discipline and everything-
L. Scott Ferguson: Sure …
Dilup Barot: we’re still evolving, just like- Love it … university was.
L. Scott Ferguson: Isn’t it… One thing that I’ve really added in the past couple years is that when I do my cold plunge, this is my thing every morning.
First 90 minutes is [00:12:00] mine. I become a machine for that 90 minutes, but I go into it with a kid’s mind, kid’s mindset, a young kid that’s excited, and I’ve really got, been able to get into that, which really flipped the switch on, me getting it in the discipline being dunked. I needed to find something.
I believe discipline obviously is, doing what you don’t wanna do when you don’t wanna do it, but doing it with a smile on your face, right? And that’s really what helps, and I know that you guys provide a lot of that guidance there at Omrit. And when we come back from Break Squad, we’re gonna dive into what they do for people when they come visit to keep them going with that lifestyle afterwards.
But right now, Steve Austin with Rise Mortgage, my fantastic sponsor I’m blessed to have. Take it away. Give us the mortgage update of the week.

L. Scott Ferguson: Hey, Steve Austin, thank you so much for one, your sponsorship, and also for the awesome mortgage nugget of the week and we’re back with Shyam and Dilip Barrett that has the Amrit there in Singer Island, which is absolutely beautiful facility. You need to go out and check it out, squad. And I’ll go with Shyam on this one.
So someone comes in, they go through an awesome protocol of a weekend. I’m military, so I call everything protocol. But you go through an awesome weekend. You’re feeling amazing. So I’ve spoke on stage with some of the top speakers and, I’ve also attended conferences like that, and I went home, and I’m good [00:15:00] for one to maybe two weeks, but then it’s kinda right back to the grind.
What do you guys help with your clientele, we’ll call them, to when they leave, that they keep that lifestyle going?
Shama Barot: Sure. So it comes back to our personalized wellness support system. In fact, the whole reason why we created that is because we felt that when you came to hospitality or when you had retreats, there was a great experience for that short amount of time that you were there, but what happens before, and more importantly, what happens after?
So the reason we created this personalized wellness support system was to help you in that journey, not just while you’re there, but for 30, 60, 90 days. In fact, six months, a year, as long as you need that support. Because the way we see it, your wellbeing, your longevity should be easy to understand, easy to learn, and easy to practice
L. Scott Ferguson: So squad, did you hear that?
Easy to understand, easy to learn and easy to practice on their own. Now, do they have… Have you guys [00:16:00] and hopefully I’m not spoiling anything here, but do you guys set up an app or anything that when they leave, or have you guys thought of that, that they can work on and you stay in front of them?
They’re doing their protocol, but hey, you’re come- when you come back to the Armory. Is there anything like that kind of follow-up involved as well?
Shama Barot: So right now we do it with our experts, so our personalized
L. Scott Ferguson: wellness
Shama Barot: guys.
L. Scott Ferguson: Oh, nice. So it’s personalized. Yeah. Personalized.
Shama Barot: Very- Beautiful … very much personalized.
L. Scott Ferguson: Okay. Awesome. That’s fantastic. Dilip when people hear luxury resort, they think vacations, right? That’s wh- which we want them to, right? But you talk about peace, happiness, longevity. Do you believe the future of real estate in America… Because I’m a real estate junkie. I own a lot of real estate and whatnot.
That’s my wealth vehicle that I have as well. But do you believe the future of real estate is moving from square footage to quality of life anywhere that’s out there? ‘Cause I see a lot of gyms going up, a lot of health spas. What do you see with that within the real estate industry?
Dilup Barot: I think post-COVID, people have prioritized their well-being- Yes
which includes peace, happiness, and longevity at the end of it. So people want to [00:17:00] sleep better, they want to eat better, they want to feel better. They want to enjoy b- relationships with themselves- Yes … and others more. They don’t want to feel lonely. They have start realizing digital connections are not a human connection.
So all those things people are becoming conscious and prioritizing their well-being, which is peace, happiness, and
L. Scott Ferguson: longevity. What, say that about, again, about the connection.
Dilup Barot: The human connection rather than the digital connection.
L. Scott Ferguson: You hear that, squad? You have all these drug dealers out there with Instagram and Facebook and stuff like that.
The, it’s a dopamine hit every single time you see something. Get away from that. Let the what nature and God, my God, I’m a Christian guy has intended for your body.
Dilup Barot: Correct.
L. Scott Ferguson: I love that. Shama, many high achievers are successful, obviously on paper, but exhausted in real life.
What is the most common signs someone has become disconnected from their well-being that you see? Because, you’ve grinded also. You’re a Wharton graduate. That’s not easy, okay? I’m sorry. It’s like I, I’m blessed to coach clients that went through that grind of a lifestyle and whatnot, and I [00:18:00] helped them disconnect with my coaching as well.
But what do you see?
Shama Barot: That’s such a great question because I think it’s almost that you don’t see it.
L. Scott Ferguson: Ah.
Shama Barot: When someone is so high-performing-
…
Shama Barot: They actually have a really great ability of- Focusing in, locking in, and pushing forward
L. Scott Ferguson: Their blind spot or their blinders are their blind spot.
Shama Barot: Yes.
L. Scott Ferguson: They’re so this, but there’s a blind spot out there- Yes … that they’re missing. Please keep going.
Shama Barot: So for us, we talk a lot about the five pillars of wellness.
L. Scott Ferguson: Sure.
Shama Barot: We created nutrition, fitness, mindfulness, sleep, and relaxation. But it goes back to what Dilip was saying, right?
Your outer world is moving so much faster, while your inner world, we’re still human. So how do you shift from digital connection to that human connection?
So I like to say that we have a sixth, an unsaid pillar, which we use the Sanskrit word satsang, which is essentially being in commu- in con- company of [00:19:00] like-minded people.
L. Scott Ferguson: Oh, I love it. Yeah.
Shama Barot: And sharing these experiences to improve your good habits and reduce the ones that may not be serving you so well.
L. Scott Ferguson: Wow.
Shama Barot: So when you think about this high-performing person that may be disconnected, it’s really that there may not be any signs except for the ones that they are feeling.
What you’re feeling individually.
And then sharing that journey with others in a safe space. Earlier you were talking about harmony.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes.
Shama Barot: I love that you said that, because at Omrit, we don’t do happy hour. We think you should be happy every hour.
L. Scott Ferguson: Sure.
Shama Barot: But we do hone in on harmony hour.
L. Scott Ferguson: Love it.
Shama Barot: And that’s for this exact purpose.
L. Scott Ferguson: Love it. And with being able to you can tell- someone’s life by the people that they surround themselves with, right? So some of what they probably make lifelong friends at Amrit. When they come there, they’ll keep in touch, be, “Hey, when are you coming next to do the, yoga retreats or the Pilates or whatever you guys have, going on there.”
But Dilip, how has [00:20:00] your Indian heritage, which I’ve ha- been blessed to go to Mysore India, right? And had a great time, practiced yoga, which I absolutely found out I’m no good at when I was there. But what role what, how has your Indian heritage influenced the vision behind Amrit?
Dilup Barot: I think I was fortunate growing up around the worship place
L. Scott Ferguson: yeah.
Dilup Barot: That helped me to pay attention to the inner self. And that inner self is i- very important in today’s day and age-
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes, sir …
Dilup Barot: because the outer world is moving so fast and so strong- Yeah … that people get carried away with money, power, and fame, to the point they l- they really disconnect themselves with the inner s- in- inner self.
Where at the end of the day, to me, success for inner self is at the end of the day, do you have joy, peace, happiness, and satisfaction- Yes. Yes … every day in personal life and professional life? So for me, I always check, am I a good father? Am I a good husband? Am I a good friend? Whatever, am I a good citizen?
Am I d- … in this [00:21:00] country? Am I doing right thing for this country? Love that. Like that. And on professional side- Beautiful.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes …
Dilup Barot: am I really doing my duty? Am I keeping my part of the bargain- … with my, anybody whom I’m doing business with?
And,
L. Scott Ferguson: Even when you have to be a savage. Come on, man.
It’s business. We gotta be it
Dilup Barot: sometimes.
L. Scott Ferguson: I can. But still keeping that harmony intact, right?
Dilup Barot: Yes.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes.
Dilup Barot: Yes. And really, that’s, that has helped me, the inner self more-
L. Scott Ferguson: Yeah …
Dilup Barot: because I was fortunate to learn that your inner self is as important or sometimes even more important-
L. Scott Ferguson: Even more, yeah …
Dilup Barot: than the outer self- Absolutely
which is the world around us. And today, it’s so much out there.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes.
Dilup Barot: And I think- And that’s a disconnect.
Shama Barot: Yeah. If I can jump in there. Yeah, please. I think the beauty of it is that Amrit, for us, was not just about wellness as a trend.
It was about creating the lifestyle that we wanted to live.
And the most beautiful part about it is that every part of our family, sure, it’s Dilip and I here today, but just as much my sister, just as much my mother, each of us- That’s
L. Scott Ferguson: awesome
Shama Barot: brought a component of wellness to [00:22:00] this experience that we created.
L. Scott Ferguson: Beautiful.
Shama Barot: And we wanted to share it with like-minded people- … to not only enjoy it, but to help us grow it, refine it, improve it. And really, every day we’re evolving- … we want it to evolve together.
L. Scott Ferguson: I love that. The, again, comes back to harmony and balance, right?
That’s right. It just all flows through. But I have to ask you, you grew up watching your father build businesses-
Shama Barot: Yes …
L. Scott Ferguson: shama? What’s one lesson you learned from him that you still follow to today? And one thing that you… we’ll leave the last part off, but what’s something you follow?
Shama Barot: From the day I was a little girl, every single day, he never told me, “Grow up and do this. You need to be successful. You need to be smart.” He told me one thing: “Be a good person.”
L. Scott Ferguson: Yes.
Shama Barot: So that would be the number one thing- That’s beautiful … that no matter what we do in business-
L. Scott Ferguson: Yeah …
Shama Barot: like he said, capitalism with a heart, that was the heart of it.
That’s
L. Scott Ferguson: beautiful. Yes.
Shama Barot: But that doesn’t… It… Next to that, it’s undeniable watching my parents’ [00:23:00] grit-
L. Scott Ferguson: Grit,
Shama Barot: baby …
L. Scott Ferguson: and tenacity. It is.
Shama Barot: The hard work that they put in- Yes … day in and day out.
L. Scott Ferguson: And grit’s a monotonous activity, right? It’s daily. People don’t realize. “I got grit.” Yeah. Tell me in 60 days- Yes … if you still have that grit.
So I do have a canned question. I’m gonna start with Dilip, that I’m gonna ask you, and I’m very intrigued about this question I’m gonna ask you. But how do you want your dash remembered? That little line in between your incarnation date and your expiration date, your life date and death date.
Hopefully, it’s way down the line, but how do you want that dash remembered?
Dilup Barot: What people will say- Yeah … when I die? I want to make sure that people know that I lived my life practicing good value-
