In this Knowledge Nugget, Coach Fergie explains why mental noise doesn’t get solved by thinking harder — it gets solved by moving. Through a coaching story about a professional golfer who struggled on short putts under pressure, he shows how overthinking tightens performance while controlled commitment creates clarity. This episode is a reminder that when pressure rises in business, sports, or life, decisive action quiets the mind and separates high performers from the average pack.
3 Actionable Take-Aways
- Mental noise grows when you stay in your head — controlled action quiets the mind
- Simplify your execution under pressure with clear rules so you can commit instead of steering outcomes
- Clarity comes from movement, not overthinking — make the call, send the message, roll the putt

[00:00:00] Hey squad, welcome to your weekly coaching knowledge nugget. I’m Coach Fergie with Time to Shine Today Coaching. Let me ask you something. When your head gets loud, what do you usually do? Most people think the answers do think more wrong. Mental noise doesn’t get solved by thinking it gets solved by moving.
When pressure hits, the mind starts spinning. What if I miss? What if I screw up? What if this isn’t the right move? And the more you try to solve it in your head, the tighter you get. <<READ MORE>>

I’m blessed to coach a professional golfer who used to struggle on short putts and side five feet in practice, automatic in competition. Different story. The mind would get loud. Don’t miss this. You should make this. What if I push it? The more he tried to guide the ball, the worse it got. So we simplified it, read it, set it, roll it.
No extra rehearsal strokes, no steering, no mid stroke adjustments, just controlled commitment. The moment he committed to the stroke, instead of managing the outcome, the noise dropped. Why? Because moving the body with intention quiets the mind.
Same thing in business. You’re overthinking the email, overthinking the call, overthinking the post. Meanwhile, someone else already hit send. [00:01:00] Clarity doesn’t come from thinking more. It comes from controlled action. Not reckless, not frantic, not spazzy. Calm, direct, and forward. If your head feels loud right now, don’t sit there negotiating with yourself.
Make the call, send the message, roll the putt. . The mind quiets down the moment the body commits. That’s your nugget this week. And if you’re feeling any of the pressure at work at home. Within sports, I wanna separate yourself from the average pact. Then let’s chat. I have a complimentary hour power I offer, so let’s work together to shine a light on your blind spot so it gives us a call directly.
