[00:00:00] L. Scott Ferguson: Hey, hey Mercy Squad. Welcome back to a powerful edition of Level Up Conversations with Coach Bergey, where we bring in high performers who are not just chasing and attaining success, but redefining it through, providing above and beyond service. So we’re gonna launch every one of our shows really with a kind of a coaching knowledge nugget that I kind of worked with, with possibly a client.
Uh, during the week or something I just kind of came up with or actually learn, and I’m gonna regurgitate right out to you squad out there. But cus the Greek ancient Greek poet that said, we don’t rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training. It’s time to get real squad. I’m talking about goals and more importantly, standards, goals. <<READ MORE>>
Uh, during the week or something I just kind of came up with or actually learn, and I’m gonna regurgitate right out to you squad out there. But cus the Greek ancient Greek poet that said, we don’t rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training. It’s time to get real squad. I’m talking about goals and more importantly, standards, goals. <<READ MORE>>
Yeah, they sound sexy. Big dreams, big visions. I’m all for it. Living a life of options and not obligations cannot be attained without setting big scary goals. [00:01:00] Here’s the truth, peeps, you don’t rise to your goals. You drop to the level of your daily standards, the way you wake up, how you handle the tough days, how you show up when no one’s watching.
That’s what builds the life you want. So what I’m saying is, if you’re not where you wanna be, it’s not a goal problem. It’s a standard problem. So don’t just set bigger goals, set stronger standards, and then stick to them like your future. And life depends on it. ’cause frankly speaking, it does. And a real quick example is.
Someone wants to drop some pounds, drop some weight, get healthy, doctor gave ’em a little death sentence or something, you know, like you can set the goal to drop the weight. But if you’re not reading the labels and watching what you put in your mouth, doing the exercise, hiring the right people around you, having the right squad, those are your standards.
If the standards aren’t on point, you’re not gonna reach the goals. And speaking of standards, today’s guest has some of the highest standards that I’ve ever known. He’s a true force, a tightening the mortgage industry here in Palm Beach. I’m talking about my good friend Steve Austin from Revolution Mortgage.
And a quick caveat, he’s also the [00:02:00] sponsor of our show, so I’m very, very blessed for that. So beyond the boardroom and loan applications, there’s a man of character, a devoted husband to his wife Gabby, fur daddy to his fur baby, sly and Bodhi. Steve is someone who’s built a life around values, vision, and perseverance.
And I’m also blessed to have him trust me, to coach him, uh, with his mindset work that he does in life. So we’re gonna dive into his wins, setbacks, the lessons, and the heart behind it all. So let’s get ready to level up. Steve, thank you so much for coming on and introduce yourself to the Palm Beach Squad, varsity squad out there.
But first, tell us the superpower that you might have that maybe nobody knows about in until now.
Steve Austin: I think. One of the superpowers that I say people will know about is I’m kind of a movie quote, all American. If I’ve seen it, I can probably remember it. So growing up, that’s always been a, uh, text or call from a, but it’s, Hey, what’s that line from that movie?
And, and that’s all they want. They’ll hang up after that. That was, they’re at a party or something needed. The just needed the info.
L. Scott Ferguson: I did that with you at Tropic Thunder. I [00:03:00] was like, dude, what was that line from Tropic Thunder? And you nailed it. One of the Robert Downey Jr. Lines, bro. Yeah, I’m, uh,
Steve Austin: still trying to figure out how to monetize it, but it, it, it’s there.
It’s solid. Yeah.
L. Scott Ferguson: So let’s get a little bit, you know, to the roots. Let’s take us back before the mortgage World, before the leadership rockstar that you are, but who’s the younger? Steve Austin. I know that you. Threw the pig skin around. You know, I think you took Dwyer deeper into the playoffs, uh, Dwyer football factory than Jupiter deeper in the playoffs than ever had been before.
But let’s get a little bit to the roots, man.
Steve Austin: Yeah. So I, I will give credit to the, the classes before me. They did make it to the, the state championship. We, my senior year, we lost in the third round. Um, but you know, I, I think I did my thing Yeah. Back in the day. So, yeah, that, uh, younger Steve was definitely.
Sports-based football was life. Um, I think any athlete down here can, can probably attest that we went to school. School was a part of it, but you know, football was everything. You couldn’t tell us that [00:04:00] we weren’t going to the next level and the next level after that. So. Focus was everything into that and yeah, college, college based football was life.
That’s kinda the easy
L. Scott Ferguson: answer. Right? Yeah. So you, you went to school in Stony Brook, right? New, correct. Up north in the snow. And you’re from South Florida? Born and raised. Did you ever see snow before that?
Steve Austin: I had in like North Carolina, right when we were like 10 up there for something. Yeah. I don’t even think it snowed.
The snow was like already there, right. So yeah, New York was the real culture shock.
L. Scott Ferguson: How about like, parallels between, you know, like, I know that I won’t share too much of our, our coaching sessions, but we talk a little about parallels between your athletic days and also how to parlay that into growing, you know, the fastest growing mortgage company in South Florida right now.
It just, it, it, it is. And so like, tell me some of the parallels that you use from your athletic days into the, you know, what you’re doing now.
Steve Austin: Yeah. The. It took a long time to figure out how to carry those skills and attributes into this professional [00:05:00] world because I don’t have to tackle anybody on a regular, right?
I’m not getting hit. I don’t have to hit anybody. You know, athletic feats don’t, uh, close the mortgage,
L. Scott Ferguson: right? So
Steve Austin: in that, what I learned to transition was the dedication that I was able to put into the sport. You know, understanding timelines, being on a schedule, uh, being accountable and taking care of your responsibilities in the, in the sport, the world, the career.
Um, it’s helped me a lot in what this is because in real estate mortgages, there’s a lot of people that are involved in the process. Sure. I can’t do everything myself so much like in football back at Dwyer, you know, when I was the quarterback, I couldn’t throw the ball and catch the ball. Sure. I mean, maybe if I practiced hard enough, but probably not.
So I had to trust the guys that were out there and the team with me that we wrote this play. This is what we’re running. I know where you’re gonna be, you know, I’m gonna throw the ball. Sure. And we have that agreement, you know, trusting the team around you has been big and, and [00:06:00] the success we’ve built
L. Scott Ferguson: is that tough.
Like, I find myself, like, you probably know this, I’m micromanaging myself. Yeah. Market managing sometimes my clients. Uh, and, and because I want the best for everybody. How have you really learned to hand that off? Like, what was the click? Because I know with being QB one and at that level. That it, it’s hard to hand that ball off.
So what, what really clicked for you to do it?
Steve Austin: Yeah, it actually, I think when I clicked more into understanding back in that QB one mindset of this is how you run a successful offense. This is how you run a successful team. This is how you, you know, you score and you win championships. Getting into mortgages, especially when you start out, it’s very easy.
You do everything yourself, right? You’re not that busy. You handle a file from start to finish. You can do a lot of things. You have time. Sure. But as you grow, you know, bandwidth, there’s only so much time in a day. You can only do so many files yourself successfully and go get the same amount of files for the next month.
Right. So kind of shifting back into that mindset. Well, I need to hand the ball off and then carry out the rest of my [00:07:00] play action. Or like I do have the ball to make sure that that file or you know, ball carrier is thriving in, in what the play actually is. Is the goal
L. Scott Ferguson: line.
Steve Austin: Yeah. So it actually is more natural to pass it off and kind of lead and monitor and, you know, call the play and hey, this is what we’re running and keep people accountable.
Um, it was just hard to shift into that. And, you know, finding the, the right people for the positions is. Always tricky.
L. Scott Ferguson: So when you, because you were with a company when I first met you over 10 years ago, it’s crazy how long we’ve known each other and you kind of were tapped by revolution to kind of really open up and really expand.
Down here. Like what do you think set you apart as a leader to break ground in a, in a new market like that?
Steve Austin: So I think for me it’s, I’ve always been interested in the entire picture of what the mortgage business is. What does it really take from sales to post closing funding, servicing. I know there’s, there’s more to it than just close a loan, get paid, you know, move on.
For me, I always wanted that. Candidly, anybody who gets into these, you know, [00:08:00] branch manager roles, running branches, running companies, it’s because you did some amount of sales at some point. Sure. They approach you with that, and the approach is very sexy. It’s how much did you make? Oh, double it. And then you have people work under you and you make money off of them Sure.
As well. And it sounds great. And it’s like, sure. Boom, millionaire. Right? But overnight, it’s not quite that easy. Part of the responsibility of becoming that branch manager is being that manager leader to the people that you bring under you to lead and try to bring them along to their own success. So I think what a lot of branch managers do is they don’t really want that compromise, right, of my time and my deals to somebody else.
So a lot of what I do in my day to day is actually helping and supporting and growing our team. Outside of just focusing on Steve Austin and what he wants to do in a day to day,
L. Scott Ferguson: it’s kind of hard sometimes when you’re like, man, that would’ve been whole mine, and it would be like a little bit more in money in my pocket.
But being able to, you know, either do it, defer it, dump it, or delegate it really, [00:09:00] you know, helps out and you’ve gotten a lot better. I’m gonna tell you that from when we kinda started working together, you know, so. You know, the, the mindset and the beliefs that you had when you’re younger and you’re young, buck in the business and kind of going and rocking and rolling.
So what belief did you have then that you feel like you’ve totally outgrown now in the market, you know, or life
Steve Austin: for that matter? Yeah. Gosh, so much. I mean, definitely the, the material is definitely gone. Way lower on the priority list where like having the, the sexy car, the watches, the, you know, jewelry, things like that.
I like nice things, but it’s like, it’s so much less important than Right. Than it was as a, a younger, I’ll call myself a younger man, but I was just a kid. Yeah. You know, and you, you look back in your twenties being in my thirties now and like, what an idiot. Right. Um, but you know, I think the, the sales part of it, you know, getting into this.
The job is technically, you know, as a loan originator loan officer is sales, but it’s really not that, you know, it’s what what we do for [00:10:00] people in, in building that know, like, and trust relationship of helping somebody get through this milestone that they’re trying to accomplish in the real estate world.
Whether it’s their first purchase, their vacation home, their 15th investment property. Sure. These are big things and, and big steps and checks that people are, are sending and writing for these, for these. Action. So that just money driven sales thing of, oh, this is a transaction, get it in the pipeline.
It’s, it’s one more number. Go like build it. There’s a
L. Scott Ferguson: heartbeat behind it. Right, right. Go, go.
Steve Austin: Crush commission. Yeah, great. Like, listen, we all need to make money to live, but sure, I understand more now of like what this is as a whole and what the long game is of what we really want to do and build here.
Um, so yeah, the single transaction stuff is. Way down the list and,
L. Scott Ferguson: and you’re arguably working with the biggest investment that they’re gonna have to that point in their life. Yeah. You know what, what I’m saying? Exactly. It’s like whether it’s first time home buyers or their fifth house, right. You’re doing so there’s a lot of emotion involved.
So being a professional like yourself, you have gotta remove the emotion out from yourself. Yet still make them [00:11:00] comfortable with you, right? Right. What’s the challenge in that?
Steve Austin: I think it, you know, one of the other like very important skills in this, I mean, I guess in life really, but I’m fortunate that I, I feel like I have it where I can kind of walk into any room I can associate in and relate to just about anybody.
Right. Um, and I think an important thing to remember in what we do is, you know, it may be your as as the lender, right? It may be your hundredth transaction of the year, but this could be the first time these people have ever bought a house.
L. Scott Ferguson: Sure.
Steve Austin: So right me looking at the market or understanding all the programs and processes, because I do it day in and day out, it’s still their first time.
So I have to meet them where they’re at with their level of understanding with it. Do they need me to hold their hand every day? Do we need to break this down completely? Is this their 10th one? And they just want to know like. Just text me a thumbs up. I don’t need to hear the stuff. Send the stuff like, we’re good.
Like, I’m gonna meet you Where, where you’re at. Sure. Different. You wanna go to high level, talk about the market. Great. You want to, we’re starting from the bottom. Sure. Base it. We can do that too.
L. Scott Ferguson: You have your doctors [00:12:00] or engineers that wanna read everything in there. The other people like, just send it to me.
I’ll sign it. Just have to find out their flavor and what they’re comfortable. Right, right. Yeah.
Steve Austin: Yeah. Now you should still point out with the important things to those people. I agree. It’s nice when they want to sign it, but hey, like just FYI. Here’s the important stuff.
L. Scott Ferguson: Right. And squat. I mean, what I really kind of, the takeaways I’ve gotten with this really, you know, with this skills and dedication, understanding timelines, but there’s a person.
That’s on the other side of the table for him. So he is found out ways to kind of delegate it, dump it if it needs, be, defer it or absolutely do it. And that, that’s one thing that I really, really, really respect about Steve also, that it’s a long game for him that like, I like to affectionately call it a, you know, instead of dedicate, it’s a dedicate, it’s like an overnight success.
It took 10 years. I like to call it dedicate, and that’s what we’re gonna dig into a little bit more right when we get back here to level up conversations with Coach Bur,

L. Scott Ferguson: Alright, squad, we are back and I’d be remiss if I didn’t really kind of talk into life’s values and standards. With, with my good friend, um, Steve Austin here from [00:14:00] Revolution Mortgage. Again, he’s our sponsor of the show. So a big thank you, uh, gratitude to Steve. And as we kinda shift gears, your wife Gabby plays a huge role in your life.
A hundred percent, yeah. So how has your relationship with her shaped the man you are today? Especially. In your career because dude, come on. Like, you go out sometimes you’re out till nine, 10 at night. Entertaining clients, closing deals, and she’s very understandable. I’m squad out there, I’m blessed to know Gabby as well.
She’s, and she’s a fantastic photographer, so hire her. But he was like, how does she, uh, how does she kind of keep you grounded and with the support?
Steve Austin: Yeah, it’s, um, gosh, I, there’s probably not enough time to go over everything that it is, but, you know, we’ve been together for, for a long time now, and, you know.
We started dating when I was getting into this and sure. She could attest. There’s days where I was like, you know what, like this ain’t like, there’s gotta be something else I can do. Sure. Like, I’m not gonna make it in this. And always the support and understanding of pushing through, you know, you can do it.
You have the [00:15:00] skills. Like just keep, like, just keep trying like one more week, you know, give it another shot one more month. Right. Keep going. And as. From a growth aspect because you, I mean, you kind of hit it on the head. We are. We’re in this world of, it’s very easy to blend business into your regular life because most of the clients we work with work nine to five, so it’s a bit unrealistic to always think you can just work nine to five banker’s hours, baby.
Yeah. I mean, we love that. I love that they do it. We’re like our
L. Scott Ferguson: producer, Brian Mu just works five to nine. Yeah.
Steve Austin: Hey, a good way to be. Right. So understanding, and, you know, she’s, she’s done a great job of helping me become a, a, a more present, grounded man as a whole that. I can more consciously catch myself, and I’m like, ah, it’s, it’s a little easy.
The phone rings. React to it. Pick it up. Sure. Even if you’re in the middle of a conversation, like,
L. Scott Ferguson: right,
Steve Austin: the world’s on fire. I gotta take this call.
L. Scott Ferguson: Right.
Steve Austin: Wait another minute like that, that email can get responded back to in an hour. It doesn’t. [00:16:00] Everything doesn’t require a drop everything and do it, you know, enjoy the moments that you’re in, focus on the moments that you’re in and on both sides.
When, when I’m home, be home, when I’m, when I’m working, be working. Right. And keep that focus on each and, you know, the support that she’s given me and understanding that. Sure. And, you know, giving me the little nudges of like, Hey, by the way, like we were just in the middle of talking. And you answered the phone, right?
Oh yeah. She reminder and growing up to growing up to be not defensive about it. Like, oh, this, this is how we make money. The young
L. Scott Ferguson: Steve might’ve been like, dude, chill. You know? But yeah, not under understanding of it. Then you go,
Steve Austin: oh, wait a second. Maybe it is me.
L. Scott Ferguson: When the sun rises and sets with the lady, you kind of like, you know, dig into it.
So if she was sitting right here, right now, right. What would she say is the one thing people. Don’t see about Steve Austin, but they absolutely should.
Steve Austin: Probably, probably a bit more of the emotional sensitive side. Sure. Um, you know, I, Gabby being a photographer, uh, you know, artist, a [00:17:00] creative Right. Creative mindset.
Um, my mother’s an artist, so like I have that side of me. Sure. You know, my dad’s a business owner was, you know, athlete always kind of in that sphere and I was just kind of like leaned in more to the, the business. Sports side. Right. Having a laser rocket arm helps. But, uh, you know that I do have that creative side and kind of, you know, softer side.
Sure. Um. Can talk, you know, at a deeper level. It doesn’t need to be just about business. Yeah. You know, life and, and growth in general. Communication’s key.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yeah. It’s, and also setting that expectations with your clients. Also knowing, hey, this is how fast I’ll get back to you. You know, when I, during these times, like, I mean, obviously if there’s a closing tomorrow, sure you jump, but if it’s not, then you kind of like.
Steve Austin: You know, relax into your life. Yeah. We manage expectations upfront as much as we can and really is like you’re communication isn’t key. You kill ’em with communication. Sure. And when you’re on top of. Informing everybody with what’s going on. They don’t really have any [00:18:00] questions.
L. Scott Ferguson: Right. So you’ve seen the movie Back to the Future?
I have. I think it’s 40 years old tomorrow I think. Or maybe it’s April. April 26th or something like that. So anyways, back to the future. Let’s get that Delore with Marty McFly. Let’s go back to the double dues, the 22-year-old Steve. What kind of knowledge not to change anything, ’cause your journey’s been pretty awesome, right?
Sure. But to maybe sharpen that learning curve or blast through maybe just a little bit quicker,
Steve Austin: boy, that that guy was something, um, I think it would be to, you know, let the guard down a little bit of the difference of the cockiness and confidence in who you are, who you’re trying to be to people, and you know what people are saying about you when you’re not around.
Sure. That kid was. Definitely more cocky than, I mean, he didn’t, he didn’t lack confidence, that’s for sure. Sure. And part of it, you know, I grew up, uh, you know, I’m a five seven white guy in South Florida
L. Scott Ferguson: that played at a pretty high level, you, uh, football down here. So I had to have
Steve Austin: that chip on [00:19:00] my shoulder too a bit.
So kind of helping nudge him to that, like, Hey, man, like, it’s okay, man. Transition that a little bit, right? But be confident, but like, you could dial down the cockiness a little,
L. Scott Ferguson: let you know, you know, full disclosure, when we first met. You were a full send kind of right outta college, kind of like, yeah. I was like, man, this little dude, what the hell?
But then we built a really good friendship on Yeah, absolutely. You know, and like you’ve saved my butt on deals before and I’ve helped you out, and it’s just like a fantastic relationship. I’m blessed to know your brother. So likewise. How do you want that dash, remember that little line in between your incarnation date and your expiration date, your life date, and your death date, right?
Hopefully it’s way, way down the road, right? Yep. But that dash, how do you want it remembered?
Steve Austin: I wanted to be remembered as somebody dependable. And that somebody that you, you knew what you were getting when you, you got introduced to me or reconnected? Mm, genuine, authentic. Yeah. There was no, I don’t put on a different show for anyone else.
Mm. You know, I’m not gonna pretend to like something you like just to forge a [00:20:00] relationship. Gotcha. And I think it’s okay to have differences and Right. You know, I want to be that person that. Everyone was like, yes. Like what a good guy. Right.
L. Scott Ferguson: About like what do you think people might misunderstand the most about you?
Steve Austin: That’s a, that’s a good one. I mean, maybe honestly the, like, partially the competitive drive, like I’m, I’m, I have a lot of competitive drive and like ambition for what I want to do, but I think the, the growth aspect of how I want to grow and like the, I. The people that I want to bring with me. Sure. To the top is, is I feel like everybody looks at this Maybe.
Maybe thinking like it’s a little bit more individual based. Obviously this is an industry that’s very, can be very individual and solo accolade based. Right. I look way more at everything as a whole. Sure. And, you know, bringing the, I wanna bring as many people along with me because I, I know what this industry can do for Oh yeah.
For others. Yeah. And I want to be a resource to help. [00:21:00] Yeah. People get, get to those milestones and, you know, really change their lives. Yeah.
L. Scott Ferguson: I mean, you’re gonna slide across home plate metaphorically bumped and bruise, but you’re bringing a lot of. Good to the people that are out there and and squad.
That’s one thing that I knew about know about Steve, is that he lives that plus equals minus lifestyle, that each day Steve is waking up and like looking for someone to emulate, looking to learn something new. That’s the plus. The equals is what him and I do quite a bit, where we just kind of wrap and bounce ideas off each other and then the minus is sending that elevator down to the people.
That you wanna bring with you, right? I mean, that’s incr, that, that’s important. That’s the way you build legacy, correct?
Steve Austin: Yeah. Yeah. And it’s really, I think we talked about it the other day, you know, it’s the, the j Cole line. You know what, what good is first class if the homies can’t sit Right.
L. Scott Ferguson: Exactly. A hundred percent, man.
So what are three things Steve can’t live without? Don’t go water, food, stuff like that. Like, I want to hear it.
Steve Austin: I definitely can’t live without the, the love and support of the Right, the core supporting cast. Mm-hmm. You know, it starts with [00:22:00] Gabby, you know, absolutely. Being that, that rock at home. Um, but you know, also the, the core base of, of friends and family.
Yeah. You know, I’m fortunate to have a really strong core of, of close people that you do. That’s what I can lean on.
L. Scott Ferguson: I’ve been invited out to a few of your events and I’m like, dude, he’s liked. A lot of people here that genuinely like Steve.
Steve Austin: Yeah. I don’t think I could do it without that. Right. Um, fitness, huge thing.
You know, it’s been such a core aspect of my life for so long that if I go, you know, you go two, three days without working out, you’re just, I just feel worse. That’s not your standard. So, no. You know, movement and fitness is always gonna be one. And, uh, finding, finding enjoyment outside of. Of the work. So right now, currently that, that enjoyment is, is golf.
Yeah. Which, you know, candidly, I haven’t been doing much of it ’cause we’re in grind season right now, but it also gets wildly expensive to golf down here this time of year. Absolutely. But, um, you know, having that, that joy in life, ’cause I think it’s important to remember like the, the work in the hustle is all great and it’s, it’s important piece.
But like if you’re not [00:23:00] finding something enjoyment from it outside of it, you know, what are you doing it for?
L. Scott Ferguson: Love it. Yeah. A hundred percent true. It’s gotta have purpose. Right. Rights. Like, so what is Steve’s definition of a life well lived then?
Steve Austin: I think a, a life well lived for me would be, you know, being able to look back professionally as having built something that can be.
Carried on and is a place for, for individuals to get into an industry that is not, you know, you don’t grow up thinking of being a mortgage lender, right. You’re not like, you know, getting into astronaut,
L. Scott Ferguson: mortgage lender, which one is it? Right. Yeah, no, it’s,
Steve Austin: um, but really what it can do and what it can can be, and there’s a lot of different ways to get it into it and grow.
You don’t have to be sales. Like, there’s so many ways that I think I want to bring light to how you can do this industry without, you don’t have to be a loan officer. Sure. It’s not the only way. Um, as a, you know, as a husband, somebody that always took the time to let, let my person know that I’m there for them.
It’s, it’s you and me. Um, you know, [00:24:00] we’re, you know, blessed to have a family down the road, you know? Sure. A supportive dad like I had growing up. Yeah. Um, to always be there. Yeah. And as a friend, somebody you could always depend on whether it was you need help moving or like, you just need to go. Vent. Go vent talk.
I get you Hang out.
L. Scott Ferguson: Yeah. Oh, that amazing man. You’re moving like a lot of people, again, I’ve been to events where you’ve thrown and invite me to. It’s just, it’s amazing that the, the magnet magnet you become where people are like, oh, there’s Steve Austin, and it’s not Steve Austin like. You know the wrestler or my Steve Austin growing up.
$6 million, man. Right. But it’s like this local legend here, Steve Austin and Steve. We’re gonna take you through our leveling up lightning round. You and I have talked about a lot of these questions. 15, 20 minutes. You have five seconds with no explanations. You ready to level up? I’m ready. All right. Steve, what is the best leveling up advice you’ve ever received?
Steve Austin: Just do it. Love it. I guess it was from Nike. Best neutral
L. Scott Ferguson: statement ever. Yeah, absolutely love that. Share one of your personal habits that contribute to your success.
Steve Austin: [00:25:00] Reading.
L. Scott Ferguson: Gotcha. So speaking of reading, you see me, I’m in my doldrums, like Fergi looks like he needs to read this. What book is it that flipped the switch for you?
Steve Austin: The book I’m currently reading and I, gosh, I forget the author’s name, but it’s called The Source. Mm. And it’s, she’s like a doctor, so like, like a legit doctor and on the spiritual side. Right. Um, I’m, I apologize for not remembering the rest, but it’s an excellent book. Just Google it. I’m sure you’ll find it.
L. Scott Ferguson: Absolutely. I’ll throw in the show notes on the podcast page. Absolutely. Uh, com most commonly used emoji when you text.
Steve Austin: I’m a big, uh, fist up guy. Fist bump.
L. Scott Ferguson: Love it. Nicknames. Growing up,
Steve Austin: uh, I had a, a late uncle that he used to call me Ace.
L. Scott Ferguson: Love it. How about, uh, headline for your life?
Steve Austin: Headline for the Life.
Uh, relentless. Love it. Chest
L. Scott Ferguson: checkers a monopoly.
Steve Austin: I feel like industry-wise, I should say monopoly, but I genuinely, I want to learn and get better at Chess.
L. Scott Ferguson: Chess. Love it. Love it. Go to ice cream flavor,
Steve Austin: uh, cookies and cream.
L. Scott Ferguson: Love it. Love it. There’s a sandwich called the Ace Austin. Build that sandwich. What are we eating?
Steve Austin: [00:26:00] There’s definitely some chicken cutlet on it. Nice. Uh, probably some cole slaw, bacon, some kind of, some kind of secret sauce.
L. Scott Ferguson: Love it. Favorite charity and or organization I like to give your time and or money to.
Steve Austin: Uh, definitely, uh, a, a good buddy and, and. Brother, I’m, I’m fortunate to, to call a friend and brother, uh, Anthony Longo’s, uh, Warrior’s Choice Foundation.
Absolutely.
L. Scott Ferguson: Beautiful. Last question, we can elaborate just a little on this one. The best decade of music, sixties, seventies, eighties, or nineties.
Steve Austin: Whew. I mean, for me and when I grew up and like, you know, when I was the oldest, it was probably, honestly probably like early two thousands for hip hop. Okay.
Yeah. That’s that. I’ll give you that. That was the, that was the hype music for our pregame mixes. Love it. And everything.

L. Scott Ferguson: Love it. One last knowledge nugget that we can take with us, internalize and take action on
Steve Austin: one last knowledge nugget. You know, I guess it, I mean, I guess it’s probably more cliche, but just don’t be afraid to fail. Yeah. And it’s okay to be, it’s okay to be wrong. It’s okay for something to not go exactly like you expected it to.
Sure. And I can sit here with a, a whole bunch of rocks behind me. Yeah. That I’ve tripped over and fallen down on that. I’m better for today. Love it. And that make me better in everything else that I do
L. Scott Ferguson: in squad. It was an enlightening conversation. I have notes upon notes, my guy Steve, about really kinda leveling up of your life.
Steve does what he loves in the service of people that loves what he does. I see he does. Mortgages [00:28:00] and people see him doing the mortgages. That’s the person that you want writing your mortgage. I promise you. He has a fantastic wife, Gabby, that when he fails, she reminds him to fail forward. You know, let that guard down with, you know, get rid of that cockiness and just move forward and be genuinely likable, which Steve is.
He’s will be reminded of some that’s dependable, genuine, and authentic. He wants to bring people along on the journey with him, and that’s a, a, a true leader right there. And he wants to look back on what he’s built with pride in knowing that it was a team that built it, not just him. So thank you so much for tuning in out there.
