To live a life of options and not obligations on this platform, we are soaked to bring you high performers who are not just chasing and attaining success, but redefining it through above and beyond service and squad, as I always start off with a little coaching knowledge nugget. A lot of people talk about leadership.
It’s, it’s like it’s some flashy title or in, in a corner office. Well, let’s get real. Leadership is not about what you can add. It’s about what you can [00:01:00] multiply. Think about it. Addition is limited. You work harder, you grind more hours, you push heavier weight. There’s only so much one person can do.
Multiplication is different. Multiplication says, I’m not just carrying this load myself. I’m creating other people who can carry it too. That’s the difference between a manager and a leader. A manager adds a leader multiplies. So here’s your coaching knowledge nugget get. If your impact stops with you, you’re not leading, you’re babysitting.
But if your impact outlives you, you’re raising up leaders who will raise up leaders, then you’re multiplying, and that’s legacy. So today, today, ask yourself, am I. Adding, or am I multiplying? Because leaders who multiply don’t just change a team. They change generations and squad talking about leadership and multiplication.
Today’s guest is a powerhouse in education and leadership. John Anthony BGAs is the brand new president of Jupiter Christian School, and he is not just another name in the system. He’s a game changer. With more than 18 years of experience across public charter and private Christian schools, Jay has done what [00:02:00] many thought impossible.
He helped create Florida’s very first department of education. Recognized school system from shaping policy inside the Palm Beach County School District to launching brand new Christian schools with Family Church. Jay has proven that his mission is crystal clear. Put students first and fight for school choice that empowers families.
Now he’s bringing that passion, vision, and innovation to Jupiter Christian School during one of his most exciting chapters yet. But here’s the real heartbeat and kicker of the story. Jay isn’t leading alone. He and his wife Anna, raising five children of their own are all in on this community with this movement.
So when we talk about leadership, legacy, and leveling up the future of education, Jay Bogguss is the man you want at the table. And Jay, thank you so much for coming in brother, and carving the time. ’cause I believe kids go back to school. Like this week. Is it this week? They’re back. Yes, they’re back First.
Jay Boggess: First day was Wednesday for us. Yes. Yes. And
Coach Fergie: my awesome friend Kirsten Miller is the PR four J. She’s like, dude, you went back to school this week, so we’re lucky to actually get you on like this week. So thank you for carving the time here, brother. [00:03:00] These
Jay Boggess: are the things that get me excited and really pushed to exactly how you started this show and that.
Legacy impact for a future generation. Thank you brother.
Coach Fergie: Like legacy is what is in my epi path. Hopefully, no doubt. Come down the line. Planting trees, we’re never gonna sit in the shade of, right? Yeah. That’s what you’re doing out there. So you’re stepping in the role as president at Jupiter Christian, it’s huge.
I mean, it’s big. You know, what was the very first thought that hit you when you accepted the position?
Jay Boggess: So in coming to to Jupiter Christian, it was how do I take this time and moment in both my personal and professional life and align them together? Right? Um. My priorities are God, husband, father, love it, and, and just like that.
And so how do I have personal, uh, attraction to education, but also a professional gain in what this means? Jupiter Christian had both of those to offer. We were looking at a strategic plan, we call it Vision 2030, a light for all to see. Yes. And when I really started talking with board chairman [00:04:00] Donald Barnes and the past president, Dr.
Seth Cohen. They had a ton of incredible ideas and started to package what it could look like, but really needed a catalyst for how we were going to get there. And really the body of work that I’ve had for nearly two decades aligned perfectly and really felt like that was going to be a beautiful fit for both Jupiter Christian and for me personally and professionally.
Coach Fergie: Right? Absolutely. And it, and squat, if you’re not, if you’re listening on the podcast, Jupiter is highly sought after area. Down here in South Florida, where before it was just kind of farm and strawberry fields and everything else. So it’s, it’s beautiful. So, you know, you’ve led public charter, private, you know, Christian schools.
So what, what’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned about what truly makes a school thrive?
Jay Boggess: Yeah, so I say the, the, the greatest. Game changer that I have seen, um, is when real relationship is fostered in the classroom. The greatest connection and relationship that takes place in education takes place between a teacher and a [00:05:00] student.
Everything else is to support what that means. What I mean when I talk about it though, is. Parents and families are wanting their child to be seen, known, and loved. Right? That they are in a place where ultimately they’re more than a number, and that real relationship between a school, the student, and a family is taking place, right?
That’s how fostering a whole child approach really happens. Um, and I’ve seen it, yes, in public school. Um, I have seen it in other places, but I think in a Christian school setting, you get to do more than just the academic rigor. Absolutely. You are really talking about the moral compass and really the spiritual formation of a next generation of learners and leaders for Kingdom Glory friend.
That is what we’re talking about. Yes.
Coach Fergie: I love that. And, and, and squat, I love the, the humility that I’m hearing in there to being a servant. You’re not just saying that you don’t sound like a politician. And I mean, again, Jupiter is a desirable place,
Jay Boggess: no doubt.
Coach Fergie: And like you’re heading up a [00:06:00] a pretty big in Denver.
So squad, listen to that humility that you have. That’s a true leader. And Jay, I, I gotta ask ’cause I did some research a little bit and you have about 700 students on a wait list, Scott. We have
Jay Boggess: 700 students in a weight
Coach Fergie: pool. Weight pool. Okay. Um.
Jay Boggess: That’s just in the last 12 months.
Coach Fergie: Oh, okay.
Jay Boggess: This is the, the, the, the tremendous pent up demand that I, I really think that we’re seeing.
And I mean to reference Jupiter, uh, wall Street Journal two or three weeks ago called Jupiter, the next Palm Beach.
Coach Fergie: Please know. I’m kidding.
Jay Boggess: Um, so you have a fluence and influence moving here. Sure. That already lives here. Right. So it’s not as if this pent up demand is coming from just an outside force.
No. It really is the idea that folks in this post COVID world are taking a hard look at what the educational options are. Right. And what does it mean to foster the whole child. Just, yeah. The alignment of seems lot of people are
Coach Fergie: growing that moral compass. That’s correct. Yeah. [00:07:00]
Jay Boggess: In fact they’re demanding it.
Coach Fergie: Yes.
Jay Boggess: Um, they wanna make sure that they’re echoing the things that are being taught in their homes and then that they’re being fostered at a school setting and that we’re reverberating back and forth this young man or young woman to raise them up. Right. The ideas around, you know, I talked to academic rigor, but.
As leaders, we talk more about what’s in your heart than necessarily what’s in your mind. Thank you. Data is important in leadership. Yes, absolutely. But you know what else is love, grace, humility, compassion, uh, care and kindness. Yes, sir. Those are the things that I don’t believe are being taught elsewhere.
And. I can rest assured say that at Jupiter Christian Schools, we are not only focused, but that becomes a cornerstone piece of our priority.
Coach Fergie: Yeah. And I love that, the weight pool. I love how you, uh, we, we, we said that and the moral compass that you’re kind of bringing, you know, to the table where people, what they’re living at home and they’re gonna live a lot [00:08:00] at school.
That’s the values and whatnot. So I love that. That’s, I’m not saying it’s being pushed, but it’s being really encouraged. Yes. Because I’ll tell you Right. I’m right on board with that, with, with. Hopefully that, uh, people really buy into it. And what another thing you said is the 700 wait lists, a lot of ’em are actually local.
Families. Correct. They’re not just pouring in here from everywhere else.
Jay Boggess: Most definitely love it. These are folks that are making a conscious choice that might have went to X, Y, Z public school or perhaps another option and are saying, no, this is how I’m going all in with my family. And as our mission says, we, we teach the mind, we reach the heart, and we inspire servant leaders to impact the world for Jesus Christ.
I love that. So it is explicitly told to our families, these are the expectations that you can have for us as a institution of learning. Yeah. But also as a ministry field to speak and preach the gospel.
Coach Fergie: I love that. And squad it. It’s like he’s doing what he loves. In the service of people that love what he does.
I mean, pe, pe you’re doing what you love. Yes. But other [00:09:00] people are out there seeing you do something that you love, which people really get on board with that. And that’s just epitome of a leader,
Jay Boggess: brother. No doubt. You
Coach Fergie: know? I love it. Thank you. I speak thank you on stage about that. So it’s just beautiful.
So what does. A spiritually and academically thriving graduate look like in 2025?
Jay Boggess: That’s a, a great question. Um, I talk about it like this. It is the alignment of your head, your heart, and your hands. And what I mean by that is the, the truth that you know to be true, the gospel truth that he has taught us.
What is the alignment then to your heart that you know, without a shadow of doubt, this is the calling on my life. That is the passion to desires that from creation. He has made you to be unique and beautifully made. And then ultimately, how does that impact your hands to go out and be servant leaders and to impact the world for Jesus?
How are you value added in the community in which you live? And how are you the light in what many would [00:10:00] call this darkness so that others can see it? I love that,
Coach Fergie: uh, the head, heart, and hands. Yes, sir. Did you, where did we come up with that? Uh, is it something that kind of came across to your prayer or like, I I maybe you was passed on again,
Jay Boggess: you’ll, you’ll find just like many of your listeners, um, a mission centric organization.
I love it. So everything that we do is tied back to our mission. So when I talk about teaching the mind, reaching the heart and impacting hands, the war for Jesus Christ. Yes, I, that is the head, heart, and hands concept. And I love the hands of the action. That’s exactly
Coach Fergie: right. Right. And you’re actually getting it done.
So, you know, as we move it along, so you, you have an online, uh, through Jupiter Christian also. So how do they stay connected to the school community? Because again, there’s the whole homeschooling this and that, but like Sure. How do they, how do you make sure that they’re included? You know, and feel part of the family.
Jay Boggess: So we have Jupiter Christian Online Academy, JCOA, and the unique ability gives you greater flexibility. We have a lot of aspiring pro [00:11:00] athletes. Mm-hmm. Um, that, or perhaps their equestrian, perhaps they’re swimmers, perhaps they’re travel baseball. Anything in between. Right. And they, they’re not able to do a Monday through Friday, the grind, if you will.
Right, right. But when they are, they come for our chapels, they’re aligned with our ball teams and our clubs. So they get a little greater flexibility in the academic side, but still get, as we just talked, the spiritual formation and the community aspect of who we are as an institution.
Coach Fergie: That’s beautiful that you’re including them and nobody’s feeling life out.
You know, and also it’s a, an, an option for people that they can’t really do that grind because they’re being called to do something else. That’s right. But still get the heart, head, heart and hands kind of involved in it. So. You know, the, the Florida’s universal voucher law that’s opening doors for you guys.
Like, can you go a little bit into, I read it, kinda did some research on you and whatnot, but if you can maybe explain that out to the listeners.
Jay Boggess: Be glad to. So, here in the great state of Florida [00:12:00] back in 2023. Um, our, our legislature and Governor DeSantis passed what we called at the time, HB one, and it was the passage of the universal voucher.
What does that mean? Um, it means that we took all income caps off and we said, if you are a child in this state, the dollars are attached to you. Dollars Follow children. Now, no longer are we in a a system. Wow. That’s strong. You push it to 67 school districts, right? And then it’s doled out to, hey, if you go to public school, you get it, but if you don’t, uh, you’re on your own.
Right. That’s not what we believe any longer. Right. And I, I said it back in 23, and I am living out what that means today because the moment that that happened, I said, that is going to radically reshape. The landscape of education moving forward in this state. And I’m going to tell you, I believe that it’s going to change the trajectory of the United States of America moving
Coach Fergie: forward and dollars follow children.
I’ve never [00:13:00] heard it said like that, but it’s it’s truth, correct? It’s the absolute truth and squat. I am going to send it to my really good friend, Steve Austin. He’s gonna tell us a little bit about the market update here in South Florida and we come back, we’re gonna talk with my good friend Jay here, about the new campus that we’re hopefully gonna be getting built and.
Also pick ’em through our leveling up lightning round. So stay tuned.
Steve Austin: Thanks Scott. Happy Saturday everyone. This is Steve Austin with the Rise Mortgage Dynamic Team with the mortgage market recap for the week of August 11th. It was a mixed bag of inflation data this week. There still seems to be some lingering uncertainty of how things are gonna play out over tariffs.
Despite some volatility in the market, mortgage bonds have held steady in the new range that we’ve been trading in. With that, we have had a better week in mortgage rate pricing. Uh, we have also seen an increase in buyer activity, so feeling very optimistic about the housing market, especially here in South Florida.

Coach Fergie: Hey, thanks Steve for the update and I know that you just moved over to Rise Mortgage and your company over there, so congratulations on that. And Jay, huge, we’ll say news, you know, to some of them out there. But you know, there’s a 25 acre kind of state-of-the-art campus that is looking to be built.
Right. And it doesn’t just change Jupiter Christian, it changes the entire educational landscape of South Florida. If you ask me now the dive that I did on it, that’s what I’m seeing. So what kinda legacy are you aiming to build with this project
Jay Boggess: friend? Um, since 1963, Jupiter Christian has been. In the town of Jupiter, um, that’s 60 plus years ago, and I believe that this new campus concept will reset this legacy for the next 60 a hundred years to have Kingdom Glory impact.
That’s the way we talk about it.
Coach Fergie: Love it.
Jay Boggess: It is going to have 150,000 square feet of educational space, brand new Friday night lights, football stadium, baseball [00:16:00] field, aquatics, complex performing arts center, and all the. Things, it will be amazing and gorgeous. But I’m here to tell you, um, that is still temporal.
What we do each and every day within our classrooms is eternal work, right? And I don’t wanna lose sight of what this project really means, not only to our school, but I do believe for the, the, the town of Jupiter, um, this was the last contiguous parcel of land that could reset. A school of this size.
Coach Fergie: Right.
Jay Boggess: And in looking at it, uh, we wanna keep Jupiter. Jupiter. Sure. Um, and to be anywhere else did not make sense. Right. So that is why we are under contract and making a push and play to do this not only for the legacy of Jupiter, but for the legacy of the King of Kings.
Coach Fergie: Absolutely. So you, I know that you can’t talk about everything.
But can you give us a rundown of what the view, the vision, ’cause you, you, I really like, I, I saved a lot of time for this, you know, project that we have going on. You know, kind of give us a rundown of what you’re seeing, you know, while keeping the students engaged in their [00:17:00] moral compass and Sure. Re relationship with God.
And whatnot. So like, go a little bit deeper on this.
Jay Boggess: Yeah. So, um, we use e Ephesians two 10. Um, it is the calling, right? Yes. That you were uniquely and beautifully made, that he has great things in store if you walk with him, men. Walk into them. Yes. And so we use that with each and every student. Uh, there’s buzz terms around college and career readiness and education.
We’ve all heard them, but I don’t, I, I changed that. Um, I don’t say college and career equates to success. I say your calling equates to success. We use college, university, trade school, the military apprenticeships as part of identifying God’s calling on your life and how you’re going to then step into.
The real world. Right. And impact it. Right. That’s the difference maker in how we do education. It isn’t how smart you are, but how you’re smart. How do we have career and technical programs and pathways? Sure. Like entrepreneurship, medical, uh, computer [00:18:00] science. Right. These are all next generation Yes. Type concepts that need to be
Coach Fergie: taught.
Jay Boggess: They need to be taught. I’m sorry,
Coach Fergie: that’s where I, right. Yeah. They have to be taught. Yes.
Jay Boggess: And yet the spiritual formation in your heart. In all of this, right, is the difference maker, and for your listeners, the idea of that’s the. Difference between a leader Sure. And the, the guy love it. The leader, um, that you wanna follow.
So I ask the hard question. What pushback are you getting right now? Uh, I, I wouldn’t say pushback. Okay. Fair enough. But there is a, a to that school choice conversation. There are naysayers that say you’re, you, you’re taking from public schools. I’m here to say I’m, I’m not taking anything. Um, there has been a reshape in this state two years in the making that then allows what we just talked through, the dollars are in the parental hands, love it of the, of the decision makers.
Mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, and those that know what is best for their child. We don’t live in a place or time any longer that [00:19:00] government dictates what our children are going to be taught. We have that choice now,
Coach Fergie: right? We better. And that better be, I fought for that. That’s exactly right. So it’s like, you know, that’s, that’s, I’m thank you for standing up for that
Jay Boggess: stuff.
And so that’s when, when I say, you know, um, this is the next iteration of what education looks like in not only this state, but for our United States. Yes. I mean it, yeah. Um, and it will be a. Uh, essentially this beta concept that once we do this, I’m gonna raise it up and say, Lord, what do you want more of?
And this is the light for others to see. How do we go to other like-minded leaders in other states? Sure. That then pass a school choice voucher. Right. Then teach other leaders just like myself throughout their entire state. Yes. And we raise up a next generation.
Coach Fergie: Wow. That’s amazing. I love that you said your calling equates to your success and squad.
That that is, that is, that is a huge, you know, statement because uh, a lot of times your calling isn’t what you think your calling is. A lot of times. You know how you make God [00:20:00] laugh, tell him your plans. Yep. Right. And then you put the calling on your heart. True. And I can see that it’s deep within yours, brother.
So really appreciate you sharing that. So you’re talking about opening. The doors, you know, in 20 28,
Jay Boggess: 28, 29, right? Yeah. Uh, Lord willing, and that everything goes beautifully. Okay. But that is, that is the goal.
Coach Fergie: So Ibel is there. Almost 1200 students ish there now that are Okay. So how many more students are we talking, like, kind of carrying on that you visualize seeing?
Jay Boggess: Yeah, so we’ve currently got right around 1100. Okay. Um, exact 1095 students. Gotcha. The highest enrollment the, the school has have, uh, seen in the last 60 years. Um, and we would be building another 1200 student stations at this new site. Wow. Middle school, high school concept, again, with all the world class athletics and performing arts, the way that we just talked.
Um, and then keeping current sites so that we have a, a, a matriculation. I was just gonna ask that. Gonna keep the current system. Okay. Yeah. Um, like anything [00:21:00] in business and, and your listeners know, um, it’s. Predicated on debt service.
Brian Mudd: Sure.
Jay Boggess: Um, this is a massive project, um, on the small end, 68 million, but to do bells and whistles and to make it world class.
Sure. I think you’re really talking over a a hundred million dollar project. And then in total, what. What does that really look like to have a, a lower school campus, a upper school campus? Right. And then vision for even what it means in other matriculating sites that then feed into the, the, this big high school, middle school kind.
Love it.
Coach Fergie: So when you, you picture that first day, right? And so what do you hope those students, their families. Feel the moment they walk on that campus.
Jay Boggess: I, I’ve said it, but I, it’s worth repeating please. That they are seen, known, and loved. Okay. That you are not a number here. That I know your name. I know your family.
I know that your sister went here and I know that your grandfather started that business down the street.
Coach Fergie: Right.
Jay Boggess: That is [00:22:00] the intimacy that needs to be taking place because you, you talked about leadership. Leadership is relationship a hundred percent, right? Yes. If you don’t know your people, how do you know your flock?
Right? Right. It isn’t a massive sheep. It is each individual. Right. And our students and our families need to know that because it’s part of a culture and a community that we’ve fostered over time, and one that makes a generational difference for our children.
Coach Fergie: I and, and squad I, I’m fully behind this, and again, I live in Jupe.
You know, so I’m, I’m, I’m fully behind it. So if anybody out there that wants to talk about their time, talent, or treasure, which I stole that from my good friend Jay, please call me at (561) 440-3830. That’s 5 6 1 4 4 0 3 8 3 0, and I’m happy to put you in touch with somebody, help you get on board with that.
So. Gotta take you through a little bit of my leveling up lightning round. Okay. Like you and I could probably talk about each one of these for 15, 20 minutes, but today you got 10 seconds to answer them with absolutely no [00:23:00] explanations. So they’re just answers. You ready to level up? Yes sir. Excellent. What is the best leveling up advice that Jay’s ever received?
Jay Boggess: You said 10 seconds. Sure. Two words. We lead with love and grace. Love
Coach Fergie: it. Alright, so what part of the, the vision 2030 excites you the most right now? I know. Well, you can answer forever, brother, but I got, I wanna know the short answer.
Jay Boggess: It’s really the kingdom concept.
Coach Fergie: Love it.
Jay Boggess: That this resets this school for the next a hundred years and children’s, children’s children will have eternal impact as a result.
Coach Fergie: Beautiful. So what’s the very first word that comes to mind when you think Jupiter Christian
Jay Boggess: World class. That’s not one word. That’s fine. That’s
Coach Fergie: perfect. Who in history, outside of education, most inspires your leadership style?
Jay Boggess: I mean, clearly I can say Jesus Christ, number one. Absolutely. Um, there has been no other leader like him to date.
Beautiful. Um, no doubt
Coach Fergie: that works for me. Which, [00:24:00] which do your kids say you’re better at? Dad? Jokes or discipline? Dad jokes and they’re terrible. That’s awesome. You’ve, so you’ve worked in public charter and Christian schools. Which one stretched you the most? Uh, this
Jay Boggess: Christian school movement.
Coach Fergie: Beautiful.
Yes. What’s your favorite spot on the JJCS campus where you feel the energy of the community?
Jay Boggess: Lunchtime was always my favorite period, and I would still say today, getting at lunch with every student. That’s awesome.
Coach Fergie: Awesome. Yeah. So one book, other than the good book. That you think every high school shoot student should read before graduation?
Jay Boggess: Meeting friends and influencing people.
Coach Fergie: Deal baby, right? Yes. Love it. Yeah. I’m actually a graduate myself. Yep. So if you could add one brand elective at JCS tomorrow, what would it be?
Jay Boggess: Personal finance. Thank you very much. Not that we don’t have it, but it needs to be ingrained. Yes. At an early age. Yes. And really taught financial literacy.
Coach Fergie: Yeah. We get a heck of a lot more. Seven, 800 credit scores. Yes. I’m telling you what [00:25:00] it has to be. So what’s more nerve wracking? Leave leaving a school or parenting five kids. Woo. Depends what day of the week. So what’s one word? I’m going back to your kids here again. What’s one word your kids would use to describe you?
Loving. Love it. That’s beautiful. So this one you can take a little bit longer, but you’ve seem back to the future, right? Yes. So that’s 40 years old this year, right? So let’s go back to the double deuce, the 22-year-old Jay. What kind of knowledge nuggets might you drop on him? Not to change anything. Yeah.
But to maybe help ’em level up last through maybe just a little bit quicker. Let’s get in that DeLorean with Marty McFly. Let’s go back.
Jay Boggess: Yeah. So I, I would say, hey, um, died a flesh. Right? You, you, that’s awesome. You think that, uh, this is about you, big man, and it, it is not
Coach Fergie: right. Love it.
Jay Boggess: Uh, most 22 year olds would, would say My career, my ambition.
Yes, my goals, my ego, my, my, my. Yeah. Um, the 42-year-old Jay says, Hey buddy, you got it wrong, right? It isn’t about you. Right? And the moment that you [00:26:00] think that it is, you’re doing it wrong.
Coach Fergie: Right? Ego, right Edging, got out, EGO. So that’s what happened. So, and the last question here. How do you want your dash to Remember that little line in between your incarnation date and your expiration date, your life date, and death date.
Hopefully it’s way down the line. How do you want it remembered
Jay Boggess: the priorities that I already stated. Okay. That I put him first. Okay. Second to that, I put my wife second. Yes. Or first. Um, and then here came my children. The list of priorities comes from there, but if I don’t get those first three right, the rest of them don’t really matter.
Coach Fergie: Love it. Love it. Thank you so much for taking the time here. But what, what’s the best way to reach you? Like I know that you have probably some, rightfully so, some gatekeepers. One sitting in the room with us right now is PR rep. But, uh, like how can we reach you?
Jay Boggess: I’m easily accessible. Um, my, my email, um, we, we can certainly provide it Sure.
A phone call, uh, to our school. I, I assure you, if you make contact, you’ll get a personal phone call or email back from me.
Coach Fergie: Beautiful. Guaranteed. That’ll all be in the show notes [00:27:00] squad. So. Again, thank you so much for coming on. Yes, sir. Thank, thank you know, I’m so on board with what you’re doing. Thank you, Kirsten, for bringing him in.
Thank you for my awesome producer, Brian Mud. Thank you. The whole WJ, and O family. Let’s get out there, serve, lead, and change some lives. Level up all.
